Not sure what ofsted mean - how many children?

Hi there

I met a lovely newly registered childminder whom I'm hoping to sign up with. I just checked her ofsted registration which said:

The registered person:

?may care for no more than 4 children under 8 years; of these, not more than 1 may be in the early years age group, and of these, not more than 1 may be under 1 year at any one time (Early Years Register, compulsory part of the Childcare Register)
?must not provide overnight care (Early Years Register, compulsory part of the Childcare Register, voluntary part of the Childcare Register)
?when caring for 4 or 5-year-old children who are in full time education, may increase the number in the early years age group by the number of children in full time education, providing the maximum number is not exceeded (Early Years Register)
She's got three children of her own aged 8, 3 and 2. I want her to look after my two children aged 4 and 11 months. Do you think this is possible given the above?

I can't check with her as she's away over easter so thought I'd see if anyone on here can help....? Yes, I'm the impatient sort

When does your 4yo start school?

She may apply for a variation (special permission to care for more than normal)

birkiefeet · 02/04/2010 19:52

He starts in September. I won't actually need her until he starts school. Does that make a difference?

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick

yes she can have both if oldest is in school full time

AvadaKedavra · 02/04/2010 19:56

Yes, him being in full time education means he goes up into her next category, leaving room for your youngest and her two youngest

Thank you both very much. Its been a long hard struggle to find a childminder that "fits" lol that I didn't want this to ruin things.

Thanks for putting my mind at rest.

But if he starts P/T then she won't be able to have him until he attends F/T (unless she applies for a variation)

birkiefeet · 02/04/2010 20:47

He won't be starting with her until he is attending F/T as I'll be around to settled him in while he's doing P/T. If anything changes though at least I know she'll have to apply for a variation. Thanks.

Sorry to mention it - glad it's sorted for you
