im trying to do my planning s my inspection is soon.

i use sensory and shiney toys and include him in our singing sessions, he likes to roll from side to side and grab at toys but cant think or anything else to write down, he cannot sit up yet

we roll balls to each other and i support him so we can "play" this with the other children.

put together a treasure basket for him to rootle through

A treasure basket is filled with ordinary clean household objects that are interesting to feel and touch, and with natural objects

such as:

plug with chain
metal spoon
bath/shower body puff
clothes pegs
a bunch of keys

and

a peacock feather
wooden dowel
wooden spoon
smooth pebbles
pine cones
silk scarf
lavender bags
a lemon

These are, as you can see, not toys and the baby should be watched closely. But don't interfere, the point is that the baby is exploring.

And you must RA too

Nearly all baby stuff is smooth plastic, it feels a bit unpleasant and chilly, and babies don't get the opportunity to handle and test other substances

Do you have a disco ball? very young children love watching the lights, safety mirrors are good, gives baby sense of self, outdoors is also great, you can use windmills, windchimes trees, plants, streamers, balloons hanging about etc. Lots of different types of music, sing songs / ryhmes, lots of talking about them, their families, what we are doing today, help them touch their fingers / toes / knees so they can become more mobile.

BALD's treasure boxes sound lovely too, people are so afraid to give young babies anything that isn't soft or specifically bought for babies age range, they get so much from exploring everyday stuff.

this is great, i had a feely box of different textures and he loved the shiney ones, will get some bells and chimes for the garden and things lie that, very inspired now! shopping trip on my day off i think!

Put him in the highchair and pour yoghurt onto the tray and let him do mark making with his fingers.

Cooked pasta shapes and dry pasta shapes is another good one.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 02/04/2010 20:30

jelly was a bit hit recently

BoysAreLikeDogs · 02/04/2010 20:31

BIG hit not bit hit

Hayleycm · 02/04/2010 20:34

parents not really bothered; one of things we talk about at settling-in is that the children are very likely to get grubby or sticky or painty

I put the baby in one of those bibs like a painting smock, you know, they have sleeves

great fun

(newspaper under the high chair to catch some of the jelly)

Hayleycm · 02/04/2010 20:47
