When to give nanny a pay-rise

I'm new to this, so can someone advise me?

My nanny has been working for me for 3 months, and it's all going very well so far.

I just wondered, what is the protocol for giving pay-rises?

Is a rise routinely given after 6 months? A year? Or is there no protocol?

She's fairly experienced and I currently pay her £10/hour, which is standard for the area where I live and her experience.

We do an annual pay review with our nanny (has been with us 3 years) - it helps if we know what our payrises have been first so we can figure out what hers should be.

we review ours on the anniversary of us joining us

I am a nanny and I expect a pay rise on 1 April each year to coincide with the new tax year. Have been a nanny for 23 years and never known a nanny to get a pay rise after six months, try giving nanny perks if you worry about loosing her. My boss gives me a pre-loaded Starbucks card every few months and sometimes flowers, on one occasion we all sat down to pancakes for breakfast as mum and dad were having a day off (no I am not live in) - it does the trick with me as I have turned down several other jobs I have been offered by parents who see me at work with the baby!

an annual payrise seems to be the norm

have you not got in your contract - a pay review/pay rise after a year?

jackieRM · 05/04/2010 10:31

Oh yes. We sat and did a contract a couple of weeks before I started. I should have mentioned I started the job on 1 April and it's just conicidental that is the same week as the start of the new tax year.

It is up to the family to decide the rise they wish to give if at all, I got a rise of 50p net per hour (an additional £22 net per week). My contract does not state the rise I will get, it says that there will be a yearly review on pay, it's easier not to work on percentages as the family can then pay what they can afford.

You can find sample contracts on the internet.

I usually I have had a pay review on the anniversary of joining my family.
A couple of jobs in the past have given me a % of my wages in a yearly bonus instead of annual pay rise (all taxed of course)

I just give a bonus at Christmas and a birthday present. £10/hour is a good salary anyway!
