It's going to mean ringing round lots of people I fear as what one will accept, another won't.
I generally don't deal with people who are funded in arrears by someone else (SS, JOb Centre, Colleges etc) due to previous bad experiences getting my fees off them.

No reflection on the parents of course, just I can't work for nothing, was once left for over 3 months before a college paid me and once bitten twice shy etc.

It's not uncommon either sadly.

You will need to call around and find someone willing to take payment in arrears. The majority of CM's I know all take payment in advance. I take all my payments a month in arrears (so my parents are just about to be invoiced for March hours). I have never had an issue with non payment but sadly lots of minders have/do hence why they take payment in advance.

thanks ladies
ive rang a few but places are limited, as soon as i mention the funding they say no.

ive spoke to jobcentre who have assured me they pay only a week in arrears but not having much luck so far

I wouldn't. A friend just told me that her nursery let her pay her bit of the fees in time and then they wait 2 weeks each month til her childcare vouchers come through and I did think 'I wouldn't accept that, I'd make you use those towards the next month's fees!. Everyone is different though, so good luck finding one... if not, could you not find the money for the 1st week's fees and then use the job centre funding from then?

BradfordMum · 31/03/2010 17:31

Can you not pay the cm and then take the money?
She will get paid on time and it won't cost you anything.

malovitt · 31/03/2010 20:05

Keep looking for childminders OP, I also invoice a month in arrears - I like to know when I'm paid that I've already earned it!

I wouldn't have a problem with your situation, sorry I'm nowhere near Greenwich.

AvadaKedavra · 31/03/2010 20:38

BradfordMum, problem with that is that these things often take weeks and weeks to be paid so the OP would be out of pocket for that time. If you can't afford to be woithout that money for a few weeks then don't do this OP

That's why a lot of childminders would hesitate to take this lady on, AvadaKedavra. They can't afford to wait for their money, either.
I've had to wait months for payment in similar circumstances and Social Services are even worse at paying up. I've had to wait a couple of years for them to pay me. In fact, it was only when, in frustration, I added on late charges (oh, boy, did that stir them up ) that they finally paid, on condition that I waive the late charge penalty. At £10 a day for 2 years, it came to quite a bit .

AvadaKedavra · 31/03/2010 23:35

Tanith yes I know, see my first post

years??

malovitt · 01/04/2010 09:35

I have a couple of after-schoolers for the past year whose fees are paid by the jobcentre as their Mum is on training course.

It initially took two weeks for the money to come through but they then made an extra payment so all more or less up to date now. I have the direct line number of the mum's caseworker at the jobcentre who is responsible for the payments; she told me to call her directly if any problems.

xbeckyx · 01/04/2010 10:39

thanks ladies
im still searching it a nightmare childcare is so limited around here, and the funding seems to be a big issue

the job centre assured me its only a week in arrears but who knows, i have 19 days to try make this work

it would be impossible to pay upfront as ive paid all bills so now left with money for food and travel

Can you talk to the Job Centre about a crisis loan to cover the childminder expenses until the payments start to come through? Once they come, you are already in credit, with helps to sort any shortfalls that could happen in the future.

xbeckyx · 01/04/2010 12:02

i spoke to my loan parent advisor yesterday, she said i cant get a crisis loan as its not a crisis
im going to try and borrow it off my family until end of month

just rang a few numbers on updated list of cm but many dont do monday-friday or drop off to their schools
