How much ££ for DM to look after baby?

Hi

I want to offer a token amount as she's helping me out whilst I study... (or else I'd have to study at weekends.)

But also she's my mum and I don't want to give too much cause she should want to help out with her grandchild... and she does love him of course. If that makes sense..

She doesn't work and has no money. But I guess I don't really want to give her cash as I don't want her to see looking after him as ££££! (cause she would, she's a bit like that!)

A childminder would charge about £75 for the day.. She is here for a day and will probably do this for me quite a bit. DS is 10 mo.

She has done it before and I've bought her a cardi, but no time to buy a cardi this time..

What should I do?? Please does anyone have any advice?

dont give her something everytime - i would do something nice for her like a pamper day token or something every so often.

she's not really into that sort of thing but i see where you're coming from...

I wouldn't offer money in your circumstances. I would take her out for lunch or buy her something nice..not every time but sometimes.

Make sure she realises how much she is helping you out and how grateful you are. For me when I help someone out I prefer to 'know' that they are grateful rather than recieve something in return for doing it.

go food shopping with her, then at the checkout, you pay.

75 a day? wow hmm i would just get her a treta now and then, nothing too regular so she wont expect it , and so if your short one month not under pressure to get something, i think the shoping one was nice, and maybe gift cards for have favorite shops, and lunches here and there would be great, mummys wlatys love cards and choocy, andtime my daughter write down how much she loves me and appreciates me i well up, works a treat

£75 a day?
Are you sure?
That's either a very long day, or Royalty are moonlighting as childminders!

I guess £75 a day is probably central london

My fees are £6ph so normally around £60 a day and I am in sussex

StarExpat · 18/03/2010 13:32

I pay £5ph in Surrey. I cannot imagine £6ph. Or £75pd. We pay £40per day.
