Temporary overnight nanny - cost?

Hi there,
I'm going to have to go away for work for one or two nights. For various reasons (we'll be between au pairs, etc) I'm trying to find out about temporary overnight care. I have a 7yo son and 3.5 yo daughter. They would be at school / nursery, so it would be drop off - pickup and over night care. Can anyone give me a very rough idea of what this would cost? And anything else I should think of?
thanks,
madcows

as your children are hopefully sleeping through the night as not babies most nannies charge their hourly rate from start of day to midnight and then a sleepover fee from midnight to 7am of £30

you say drop off and pick up, so even though both are at school, you really need to pay someone for that daytime period incase they are ill/fall over etc and need to be picked up (esp if you are away at work)

I do a lot of pp and I charge £200 per 24hrs - thats £10ph 7am-midnight and £30 sleepover

if babies that wake up then i charge a night nanny rate of £12ph

hth

i am exspenisive but worth it - but you could find cheaper then me

I am less expensive than blondes and for pp come in around £150/24hours.

Overnight is babysit rate to midnight, £30 sleepover and normal daily rate from the morning.

You need to think about whether you'll be contactable and able to authorise medical treatment in an emergency. If not you'll need to leave nanny a letter saying that if in the opinion of medical professionals your DC need life-saving treatment she can sign the form.

thanks for this... so something between 150-200 per 24 hours. V helpful.
What is pp?!

pp is proxy parenting - when parents away for more than 24hrs and that carer is in charge

i am pp tomorrow till sun for my work family as mb taking db away for his birthday

frak, good point about letter

where in sussex are you? and what dates did you want as i may be able to help time depending?

[email protected] if you contact me x

Can't you find them a sleepover for a couple of nights and then repay the favour with another family who has two kids of similar ages?

I pay an overnight fee to my nanny which covers her time from 7:00pm (normal clock off time) until normal start time in the morning.

However, my arrangement is a long term on so probably comes a bit cheaper. Temp cover is always more.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/03/2010 14:42

strix, what do you pay your live in nanny when she does an over night

madcows needs before school/day cover/school pick up as well as evening+over night so a nanny may be easier rather then owing a sleepover

madcows · 17/03/2010 14:59

THanks for this. Sleepover might work for the older one, but probably not for the younger. Also the location of the nursery would make it difficult for a favour. I'M partly wanting to know the price because we have a friend who we might ask, but want to know what to offer her money wise.
thanks for your thoughts everyone...

You know, if you do that for much longer your tongue will freeze that way.
