Hi I am just waiting for my registration certificate from Ofsted. Can somebody please tell me what ages of children can I take on as I have 3 of my own, 6yrs, 4yrs and 2yrs. I would like to start advertising.

Thank You

A minder working alone can generally have 6 mindees under 8yrs old. Of which no more than 3 can be in the Early Years register (which is under 5yrs old) with no more than 1 mindee under 12mths.

So ofsted will deduct your own children from this number.

If your 4yr old is at school full time they can be classed as rising 5's for the purpose of adult:child ratio.

So presuming your 4yr old is at school now you will be allowed 2 mindees in the EY reg of which 1 could be under 12mths. On the Childcare Register (over 5's) you could have 1 more mindee. So 3 mindees in total.

Over 8's arn't regulated so you can have those too (check the number on your P/Liability Ins Cert).

But I have known some minders to be granted less mindees initially, the inspector will look at the space you have available as well and how you will meet the needs of the children in your care.

HTH
