Mumsnet has ads about extended services so I thought I'd check out what is supposed to be available. I have a daughter in primary school and work 3 days per week. Her school has no 'before school' facilities, and an after school club which runs until 5:30 and does not provide any food. They do not run a holiday club.
The DirectGov pages say:
"By 2010, all schools will provide a full range of services - some will be free but others, like childcare, will be charged for.
Primary schools that are fully extended are required to provide access to childcare and a range of activities from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, five days a week, 48 weeks of the year."
This is patently untrue. The school is really good in all other aspects, in the top 500 state schools in the country. They have absolutely no plans to extend their services any further.
Does anyone know what are the actual legal requirements being placed on schools to provide these services and how can I lobby/force/persuade them to do what they are supposed to be doing? I don't mind paying for these services but they simply don't exist.
