Last question on this I promise but SEF: How much did you do??

I have my inspection coming up, there are 3 dates she could come the soonest is the 19th March. I want to do my sef but I'm not prepared to write it all in a hurry for the sake of it. It's supposed to be a reflective tool and I wont use it properly if I write a load of rubbish in it now for the sake of it.

So, how much do you think I should complete to give the inspector a good overview of my setting. I've done up until the outcomes sections and I'm tempted to stop.

WWYD?

Hi I think it depends on the inspector. Some might not mind but my CM friend didn't complete it and she had it as an action on her ofsted report. She wasn't happy!

CaitlinMeringue · 09/03/2010 20:07

I would be inclined to stop now, you have worked so so hard and could do with a few nights off, yes?

TidyBush · 09/03/2010 20:12

I mentioned this on another thread (I think it was on MN anyway) but we've recently re-registered our preschool and the inspector who did our registration visit said that as long as you have a piece of paper listing strengths, weaknesses and an action plan for adressing them then you've covered your obligation for self evaluation.

Hope all goes well.

Thanks everyone fingers crossed!

I thought the sef was voluntary - I'll be a bit miffed if I get 'downgraded' due to not filling it in!

CaitlinMeringue - exactly I have been doing it bit by bit but it's mammoth (the parts I answer I typed into word to spell check and it's 12 pages, size 12 font!). I've only been minding for 4 months and TBH my main goals have been to settle the children & parents and ensure I'm working to the statutory framework and fill my vacancies and get the garden ready for spring so we can grow veggies!

I have no objection to doing the SEF but it's meant to be an evolving document that you monitor and change as and when. Not a big hunk of work you get done and then forget about.

Chin up mate; you are demonstrating that your self evaluation is indeed ongoing and evolving

now go and pour yourself a very big glass of wine and pat yourself on the back x x x

navyeyelasH · 09/03/2010 20:47

can't have to stick all the velcro stuff to the back of the laminated toy labels. The labels have pictures of the toys and the name of the toys is 127 different languages - just in case

PS> only just realised who you are! Did you get given 3 dates for your inspection? I'm trying to guess which one she will come on, is there a pattern?

I've lost my SEF. The computer saved it and now i can't find it

Ripeberry · 12/03/2010 20:45

Hi, I've been minding for 6 months and my inspection is due on the 16th March. I have done part of my SEF (6,500 words!).
I did (setting), (view of those who use the setting), (outcomes for children).
I left the leadership and management, completed the safeguarding.
All the other questions I have put (this has been answered already).
It's a pain to submit the document though as you have to put something in each box and grade yourself on something you've not written yet.
Took me almost 20hrs! and they reckon it should take up to 4hrs

thebody · 13/03/2010 15:39

havnt done it dont do it and dont intend to do it... waste of time and not designed for cming anyway.. do own sef with parents and list my changes, actions taken as a result of discussions with parents,, thats bloody well enough and I got a good at Ofsted..

the lady who was downgraded for not doing sef should have kicked back.. its not compulsary so its not in the inspectors gift to issue and action on it..
