Do you still have mindees if you're own kids are sick?

Saw a childminder in the playground today, her daughter's off school with a throat infection and vomiting, but she's in the playground with her, mixing with the other kids and the childminder is still having all her mindees. Surely this can't be right?

Sounds dodgy to me

indie37 · 09/03/2010 12:11

She says it's because she doesn't want to let anyone down, but I can't help thinking if she was my childminder I'd rather she did. Presumably she'd have to refund them some money though.

that's because she'd lose money.

our childminder does this and because she offers us the option of still sending mine in there is no offer of refund.

not v pleased when it happens

Hana, if they go in and catch the bug, do you then have to keep them off?

My CM usually gives us the choice of whether to send them or not. No charge if we don't send them. I think it also depends on the age of the children - if eg. her 12-year old is off school and stays at home in bed, I wouldn't expect her to cancel her mindees.

HSMM · 09/03/2010 13:36

I give parents the choice of whether to come or not and I refund them if they choose not to. Also .... the mindees do not come in contact with my DD, because she stays in her room if she is ill.

I have only just started but I think it depends on age of child and the illness. I think D&V definitly I would close. My 13 year old is off today with a very bad cold (I am not minding today anyway as my mindee is off with D&V!)but I would give parent the choice, keep DD1 upstairs of they do come and not charge if they don't. If it was one of my littler ones I would probably just close and not charge.

i don't normally send. but my kids are uber healthy, rarely catch anything

If my ds has d&v I close and don't charge/owe hours in lieu but if he's just unwell/got cold then I ring parents and give them the option of sending or not. If they choose not to I still charge. BTW, have had parents try to send mindees TO ME when they've had d&v - because they can't take time off work
