How do I work out the going rate for a Nanny?

I am thinking about getting a Nanny job in West sussex insead or as well as moving my childminding buisness. I am thinking along the lines of, if I got a Job that would be higher or equal pay than DH, he could look after our DC and he can just do some pub work or something at the weekend or whenever I am off.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I need to work out what sort of pay I would be looking at. We are looking in Horsham, west sussex and surrounding areas (I have a car so can travel a bit).

Any ideas how to find out or does anybody here know? I know all depends on the job and also the nanny but just looking for a rough guide.

Look at jobs advertised in the area, with luck some will give a salary, or salary range. Job sites like Nannyjob.co.uk are a place to start looking. Example Search: Live-Out West Sussex

Generally speaking, live-out nanny jobs outside of the M25 in the South/South East you can expect anywhere from £8 to £12 per hour gross. What you would be paid will vary depending on numerous factors - part-time jobs can pay more than full-time for example, especially if they are more unusual hours. More experienced nannies tend to get a bit more pay, though I'm not sure that is really the case as some nannies just starting out seem to earn the same, or more than me.

You would be looking at £8-£12 an hr gross. I know you have childminding experience which will work in your favour but obv if you also have nanny experience you could ask for the top end.

Fantastic thank you. DH is looking at about £7 an hour so it would definatly be more finacially beneficial for me to work and him to stay at home.

Nannynick, that link is great. Some of those jobs sound fantastic.

I have just applied for some jobs on nannyjobs! Thanks, fingers crossed I hear back from them! Any ideas how long the agencies usually take to get back to you?

Thanks again!
