Do I need to do diaries for after schoolers?

I'm hoping not because I don't think I can face it! I had 4 for tea yesterday, youngest was 6, oldest was 10, all in full time school. Shouldn't complain though as my daughter had the time of her life and was prancing around all evening!

I don't do them for older children, I always have a quick run through at pick up, parents seem happy with this.

I certainly wouldn't expect a diary for my child of the ages you had.

I only do for under 5 year olds, don't know anyone that does them when they are at school all day.

LOL at DD. Had 7 for dinner on Monday but 4 of those were 1-2 year olds so lots of mess on the floor! lol

For childminders, Ofsted are only interested in the early years children ie, up to 31 Aug after their 5th birthday.
For those attending school in this age group, what we do is supposed to be regarded in proportion ie they spend all day at school so the time we have with them is supporting that and we aren't expected to do as much as if we had all day.

Communication diaries are of most use with younger children (noting how naps went, nappies changed, bottles/meals). By the time they are at school they can usually communicate well with their parents who can ask them what they did etc. For special needs, you might be willing to extend the diary system further.

Although diaries aren't required for school children, I have given all my schoolies their own diary, which they enjoyed covering & decorating. (just a cheap exercise book from asda) Not required by Ofsted, but I hope they will enjoy sharing them with their parents and looking back at them when they are older.

Oh my God Looney I don't know how you could take 7 for dinner, your house must be huge and your kitchen even bigger! I felt rushed off my feet just with the 4 older ones, although at least DD had the same food as them which was nice and easy, she loved being in her highchair at the same table as them and they played Hungry Hippos with her which really melted my heart, it was so cute to see her actually getting some points against all these big kids haha!

Nope, NOT a huge house - I wish!!! lol I have 8 max when working with dh, I'd need a bigger house for more! It IS mental but I'm getting used to it!! Right, best go and set cot in our room for ds2 (mindee staying til Saturday so he gets booted out of his cot! lol)
