When to look for a night nanny? DD 25/09

Hello all,

my DH and I are living in Dubai, UAE. For the birth of our second child we are interested in a night nanny for, say 3 months.

The baby is due at the end of September. When should I start looking?

Another major issue is visa restrictions for home employees to only 6 nationalities (India, Philippines, Bangladesh, etc. you get the picture). We have tried all routes but cannot get a visa permit for a nanny so this would mean the lady in question would have to come on a 90 days visit visa. Is this something anyone could live with? Earnings here are tax free and we would certainly pay the full going rate plus insurance.

I am worried that we might not find anyone under these circumstances.

We will be in the UK at the end of March to hold interviews? Is this on time?

Sorry, should have said 'maternity nanny'/'night nanny'

I would do that on a 90 day visa TBH. I don't know if it makes any difference but maternity nannies are self-employed in the UK and therefore contractors, not employees.

You could start looking now - maternity nannies often take 2 bookings in advance so receiving CVs now and setting up interviews for end of March wouldn't be unreasonable.

In fact DH is due to go on a mission in October so I might be interested! But wouldn't be in the UK end of March as I live nearer you than I do the UK.

Hi,

I'm an experienced nanny looking to get into night nannying. I have experience from 5 months onwards. Please, let me know if you are interested.

Thanks,
Mtorun

Hello I would say book as early as possible I think a 24/5 or 24/6 maternity nurse would be best as you would require someone to come over from UK, I guess see if anyone on here is interested otherwise contact some nanny agencies there was an agency called burlington nannies who placed lots nannies abroad not sure if they still exist.

An agency worth looking at would be www.kidsmatter.uk.com

As a night nanny I have had bookings months in advance to the other extreme rang on the morning but a desperate mother!!

good luck

My friend has done this in Japan and said it was great expereince, she was hired though an agentcy. I would call or email what you need to them and let them do it.

Mtorun · 02/03/2010 23:50

Never write email when you are in rush!

I meant, I have over seven years of UK experience of looking after children from 5 months onwards.

I wouldn't personally as a maternity nanny recommend Burlington. Imperial and Eden are very good and have overseas desks. Do let me know if you're interested in seeing my CV and I might save you the agency fee!

Oh hello, just come back on here and was surprised to find answers!! This visa situation is getting to me a bit..dreamt of it last night. Gah!

The birth will be an ELCS hence the need for help as I have another dd (17 months) and will find it difficult to move around. Our maid will look after dd but I need a maternity nanny/night nanny especially, to get the baby into a routine and let me recover. I had a previous CS and it was horrible getting up disoriented and in pain. I was a wreck...hence the planning in advance.

I would be very interested in CVs, my email address is cashmeremafia at hotmail dot co dot uk

Thank you for the link EMNN! I will have a nose around.

Frakkinaround, my DH is in the UK nearly every 2 months, so even if March wouldn't suit we'd find another date or if all fails there's always Skype

Mtorun, no worries, I thought there might be something missing.

Lisa, I would love to look via an agency but have called a few and they are not flexible re the visa issue. Hence my worries about it. I can understand though that they don't want any legal repercussions. I just find it odd that the Emirati royals have lots of British Nannies and teachers

It's clearly one rule for one and another for ...the rest.

SWLN, please feel free to send me your CV to my above address.

Thank you all. Must dash, active toddler waking up..

I would recommend that you interview as soon as possible as good maternity nannies/nurses get booked very quickly.

I am now fully booked until the end of the year(bar a few nights here and there!)

I have had 2 people contact me and sign my contract before they have even seen their doctor!

Good luck with your search

kittyonthebeam · 09/03/2010 10:45

Hi Paula, thank you for the tip. Wow, talk about keen But that's a good thing, at least they have everything planned now. May I ask you what you do for contracts, like what does one look like and how do you exchange the fee and what should be paid in advance? I have never done this, so a bit in the dark.

Most MNs will have their own contract, take a deposit and be paid weekly in arrears with the deposit counting as the last week of pay. Different MNs have different opinions of refunding deposits - some do half up until the booking starts, some say deposit is fully refundable until 6 months before, half until 6 weeks before and then forfeit if the booking is cancelled.

I would be happy to forward my contract to you as a sample (given that I probably won't be sending you my CV!) so you can see what one looks like but please do tell me if you plan to use it. My deposit agreement is separate to the contract.

Hello frakkinaround, I actually tried to send you a PM. Thanks for your answer, very kind. We're still trying to figure out when to be in Europe/UK before the summer.

You can email me your CV if you want or just have a chat in regards to autumn. My email is cashmeremafia at hotmail dot co dot uk
