Hello all.

I am just negotiating a couple of proxy parenting nights with my (normally live out) nanny and we haven't done this for some time. I asked her what she thought would be a reasonable rate and she wasn't sure, so I said I would ask some of you what you are charging.

She is fully qualified and would be proxy parenting from her normal finish time of 6.30 pm through the night and getting the DC up and off to school next day then into normal routine. DC are 6 and 7, and don't get up in the night - or very very rarely.

What's an appropriate rate do you think? We are central Lonon by the way.

Thanks for any input

MitD

I charge babysitting rate to midnight + £30 sleepover fee + daily rate from whenever I get up to start work (which would be a reasonable time and not super-early as I like my sleep!).

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 02/03/2010 10:07

Same as Frakkin

smupcakes · 02/03/2010 10:15

I charge normal rate to 7:30pm, 50 quid, then normal from 8am (have good sleepers!)

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 02/03/2010 10:20

Same as Frakkin.

my normal daily rate, then bs rate of £10 from 7pm to midnight and then £30 sleepover - works out £200per 24hrs

or £80 for bs/over night

Thanks to all,

That's about what I thought but it's immensely helpful to have examples.

Am I right in thinking you are in the home counties Blondes?

Any London nannies out there who think it should be more?

in terms of London TBH I charge what I do because I quite like doing it and it's a doddle... Much more relaxing than regular babysitting as you can get into your pjs at 8 and go to bed when you're tired....

I'm sure I could get much more for it but my MB asks me often and I think partly because it's not ridiculously expensive...

Mummyinthedark · 02/03/2010 11:38

It's good that you enjoy staying over Smupcakes. I always hope that will be the case for our nanny and that she can look forward to it as a relaxing evening - would hate to think anyone looking after the DC wasn't happy to be there.

Tis nice as I said, I don't mind if the DC hop into bed with me in the morn either...

I think it's nice for them to be with me relaxing as well as hurrying to get homework done etc..

frakkinaround · 02/03/2010 12:23

I quite like overnights too. Less pressure to get stuff done to time, overnights are often 'treat' food nights (pizza or something equally unhealthy bought by bosses!) so there's less cooking pressure and less pressure in the morning. Plus often better TV or DVDs I haven't seen!

eastmidlandsnightnanny · 02/03/2010 19:28

Hello I am in east midlands and for overnights from 7pm-7am I charge £100 and for 24hrs I charge £200 if there is a young baby ie under 6mths then I charge hrly rate of £12 an hr throughout as likely to wake in night.

Many agencies inc norland nannies suggest a rate of £150 per 24hrs if that helps.

Mummyinthedark · 02/03/2010 21:46

thanks again
