Childcare costs. Is it worth it?

I am weighing up the stay at home vs work options. I have 2 DC's. DS 24 months, DD 6 months and I'm feeling really restless and knackered from the endless domestics and longing for more outside the home. But my income will simply pay for all that's needed because of my work. I will infact be doing it for my own sanity and nothing else. For others in a similar boat, is it worth it?

No, the combination of working and trying to run the household will exhaust you and their would be no financial reward to balance it.

If getting a job will help your own sanity then look for one. Whilst i love DS to bits i would go stir crazy if i stayed at home all day everyday with him. I enjoy being a grown up while at work, but you need to decide what you need to do.

I don't make much of a "profit" from working, but I enjoy it and DS enjoys his time at nursery.

Thankfully DH brings home enough to support us all and I can choose to do this.

I only do 2 days a week so I still have plenty of time to run the household etc although I do have a cleaner once a week which takes the pressure off.

So basically for me and my sanity yes it's worth it!

Yes, to preserve your sanity.

Also you need to think: if you don't work now will it be possible for you to return to work in a few years if you want to? If not, I would return to work and treat it as a sort of loss leader (exactly what I will be doing, as it happens).
