I am a newly registered childminder. I have received a letter from Ofsted saying that I can do my SEF online. I am only minding a four year old girl before and after school four days a week. Do I still need to fill this in as I am not doing any EYFS with her as she is in full time school. Am confused about what paper work is expected. Thanks

you should still be doing eyfs until the august after her 5th birthday and the sef is optional but you should have a look to see how you will be evaluating your business and care for children, you could be showing what you will be doing and how you can improve on it in the future.
I wouldn't worry too much as you are newly registered I would concentrate on your risk assessments and getting all your policys in order.
I rang ofsted and asked them to send a hard copy to save me downloading it all, and made notes against it for several months before trying to fill it in.

Thanks Dan I thought I didn't have to do EYFS with the child I mind as she is in school full time and does her EYFS at school. I have her before and after school and she is too tired after school to do any work with me and sits and watches tv or plays with my little girl.

Her parents are fine with her watching tv and chilling out after school as this is what she would do if at home after being at school all day.

She is classed as a 'rising-5' and you still need to show ofsted that you are delivering eyfs with her. You should also be working alongside her school - I used to do that by following the same topics the school was delivering. The SEF isnt compulsory, but eyfs is unfortunately - I know that to my cost after my inspection last year .

The sef shows how you are reflecting on what you do, regardless of the age of the children you care for - and it seems to reduce the length of time inspections take . It may have changed, but I think you are likely to be inspected within 6mths of registering with Ofsted, I would spend that time looking at you paperwork - and the sef - and make sure you are ready for them! Good look with your business

I would get it started. Even if you just put a couple of sentences in each section to start with, so there's something there. It's a chance for you to say what you do well and what you are planning to improve/change (or not).
