but I get little help from my DW and I have to find all the information to get on course myself. I had an e-mail from the EY department which left me a week to get my CV, references etc together in one week. The next assessment is in July so i want to be ready. Any help would be great.

Not sure what your post means I'm .com

Whats DW? I presume EY is Early Years Team, why did you have to find the course details yourself, does your Early Years Team not have a Development Worker, they usually have all the info you would need and details of any funding available.

Also a bit stumped re, next assessment in July, whats that for?

But it has been a long lonnnng week.

Just finished mine so can prob help if you can clarify my noodle

Hi My development worker (DW) is hard to find at the moment. Sorry I mean the next interviews to get on the course are in July ready to start the course in September. We have no support from our EY team. I just want to know what paperwork I need in July to get on the course.

Isn't the NVQ being phased out and replaced by the new diploma in Sept, if you're doin the CcLD?

I would def speak to you Dev Worker about that possibility.

I thought DW meant Darling Wife

Can you deal with the college directly? I've never gone through Early Years department for this sort of thing. Are you needing to go through them for funding?

Do keep in mind that courses do change... there has been mention of changes coming up to the CCLD, possible new course starting in September - Diploma for the children Young Peoples Workforce.

Not sure what you mean by what paperwork? I've never needed any and haven't had an assessment. However it has been quite a while now since I did a course... so I suppose course providers may well want to know some things about you before letting you start a course.

What courses have you done in the past? Take those certificates with you. Take any certificates you have from school (may be a long time ago but it may help to prove a basic level of academic achievement).

CACHE say that for CACHE Level 3 NVQ in Children's Care, Learning and Development - There are no formal entry requirements but learners must be 16 years of age with either a Level 2 early years qualification or have significant experience in a childcare setting.

So if you don't have a Level 2 already, take things to prove that you have experience in a childcare setting (so things to prove you have helped/worked in a nursery/pre-school).

I get what you meen now, your EY team should be giving you support with your personal development, it's part of their remit, I would put it in writing that you wish to develop you skills further and ask them what they can offer you in the way of L3.

But if you are doing the going alone route through your local college they will want (as far as I can remember)

  • your qualifications to date, certificates from school, further learning to back it up.

  • evidence of your work with children atm, I took in a file with an overview of what I do, planning, obs, assessments I had done, photos etc

  • if you think you may be able to get some funding for the course, take in financial info, such as how much you and your partner earn any benefits you currently recieve etc

  • a cv is useful as well

If you havn't done L2, you can go straight to L3 if the tutor feels that you have sufficient knowledge, experience and background in the area.

I think July is a long time to wait for an interview but maybee thats the next enrollment cycle. Completing the L3 through college is IMO a long drawn out process, you have to attend college, which for a CM can be awkward to work around, and the on the job observations from the course tutor can be lengthy between visits, thus slowing things up.

I've just finished mine through NCMA only took a few months as opposed to 2yrs and the observation visits were sorted very quickly and didn't need to do weekly stints at college. If you are with NCMA it may be worth giving them a ring to see if they are running the course in your area. It was free too .

Actually their were a couple of CM's who did the course who wern't members with NCMA.

You don't need to do it through your ey team, there is funding in your area through any learning facility offering the ccld, try googling ccld and see who is in your area, i'm in gloucestershire and you can do it through aspiration training(3 month waiting list), theres Rapido and also PATA offer it.
Funding is running out fast and I would try to get on a course asap as the new courses starting in september may include an exam!!!!
