How many of you have your public liability insurance with NCMA?

How many choose some other insurance?

I work as a nanny and have public liablity insurance with Morton Michell. I can access their monthly publications (Who Minds) already.
Is the NCMA worth joining as a childminder?

I have mine with NCMA, and have done for the last 19 years. I have considered changing however, and will seriously look into it soon as it is due for renewal in March.
I don't think Who Minds is a monthly publication though, I'm pretty sure it is less frequent than that. I don't rate Who Minds very highly though. the news in it is out of date usually, due to the time lapsed between editions. I prefer the actual monthly magazine "Childcare".

onadayliketoday · 19/02/2010 13:27

just checked, Who Minds is bi-monthly, as I suspected.

pippin26 · 19/02/2010 14:47

MY PL is with NCMA - always have been, although I have considered going over to MM purely for the cost factor at the moment

Bumnoise · 19/02/2010 15:58

I changed to MM after reading on www.childmindinghelp.co.uk that they are far better at helping you if you have to take a parent to court for nonpaid fees.
I get a free copy of Creative Minds magazine with it (quarterly I think)

Shoshe · 19/02/2010 18:41

Was with NCMA since they began, but last year went over to MM, as found they offered more, for less cost.

Danthe4th · 19/02/2010 20:35

I have both childminding insurance and nanny insurance through ncma just because its convienient and I haven't been bothered to get a quote elsewhere but I will look into mm to see if they will combine the 2 as ncma won't but its cheap enough.

llllll · 19/02/2010 20:53

I am considering MM just because of cost. I only down to one mindee 1 day a week plus a couple of after schooler.

dobby2001 · 19/02/2010 22:55

Have found Morton Michel to be far better at provifding information and advice when needed. Also releived to know with their policy I have cover for fees not being paid as opposed to NCMA you have to go to court first and chase and chase

Plus morton michel cheaper

jibbs · 20/02/2010 08:12

thank you

for those that aren't using NCMA for insurance, are you still a member of theirs?

Am I missing much if I decide not to become a member of NCMA and keep my insurance with MM?

OP posts:
Bumnoise · 20/02/2010 14:01

I'm not a member no, I didn't feel I was getting anything apart from the magazine peridocially (which is pretty pants too) so am flying solo now

looneytune · 20/02/2010 15:01

I'm thinking about this but currently with NCMA for it all. If you're with MM will they help if you have NCMA contracts or do MM have their own? I've just moved my car insurance to them and when got quotes for that, they offered more than NCMA.

saz73 · 20/02/2010 17:50

I changed to MM this year after 4/5 yrs with NCMA. MM was cheaper and I still could use ALL of the NCMA paperwork. But I did buy some of the MM contracts, and they are alot easier in my opinion. You can add siblings to the contract and it also covers your permission forms. So less paperwork!!

looneytune · 20/02/2010 18:23

Sounds fab Saz - how do you order them?

Bumnoise · 20/02/2010 20:10

They'll act for you whoevers contracts you use, even your own made up ones.
I have a mix of SCMA and MM contracts and MM are so nice to use, everything is explained in plain English and as said above it covers a lot of your permissions you would otherwise have to have made up yourself. They are 5 pages long but a lot of them it's only two ir three bits you need to cross off or tick and sign at bottom so it's not much more to write in at all.

I like that I can put siblings on the same contract.

saz73 · 20/02/2010 21:25

Looney, you can do EVERYTHING on line. I did phone to confirm thing. It all went thourgh striaght way on line and whenyou phone and ask for a call back it's normally straight away. I find them to be so helpfull.

MUM2BLESS · 20/02/2010 22:12

I am with MM. I found it much cheaper. Look on their website or Phone them and ask them questions if you are not sure. It was £40.oo cheaper.

BradfordMum · 21/02/2010 10:04

MM everytime for me!
NCMA are too big to have that personal touch in time of need.
MM were fab when I needed advice and nothing could make me pick NCMAagain.

milkandcookies · 21/02/2010 11:39

I am just waiting to be registered myself and have been looking at NCMA and MM they both seem very good. I am so confused at which one to take

Numberfour · 21/02/2010 12:12

i had been with the NCMA for a few years and then changed to MM. the PL includes employees' liability which is useful should i appoint DH as my slave.

i do miss receiving Who Minds? but I subscribe to Childcare. I also found MM very helpful and the woman I talked to in the legal dept very knowledgeable and confident. Previously I had called the NCMA about an unrelated legal matter and the boy i talked to was a rather unhelpful, indecisive twit.

nicm · 21/02/2010 13:45

this is good to hea about MM. i have my insurance with nicma and have done since i started minding 8/9 years ago. however i took a year off on maternity and when i went back they wouldn't offer me the reduced rate which they had just introduced to 'long term' minders as i had a break in my insurance(even when i explained it was mat leave). this annoyed me but couldn't be bothered to look into if they could even do this at the time so just had to go with them. will def look into this now. thanks
