Looking after great-niece when registered

Wonder if anyone can help me?

I will be looking after the daughter of my niece soon (baby is my great-niece).

I am registered but on the form she is filling in to claim the childcare element of the working tax credit it says to contact them if the registered childminder is a family member.

We are now worried that she might not be able to "use" me as a childminder because she won't get the tax credits.

Does anyone know the answer? Thanks!

Should not be an issue as it is you who would need to be aiming to fill spaces with unrelated children as far as I am aware.

A great niece I'm not sure counts as being related (in terms of childcare regulations). While they are related, it's not a close relation. They are the daughter of your sisters/brothers child. I think!

atworknotworking - thanks for finding these threads for me - I'm going to have a look right now.

nannynick - I was hoping that was what somebody would say (that it would be ok as not a close relation) - thanks!

It seems like it will be ok from reading the other threads - obviously my niece doesn't want anyone else looking after her baby if she has a registered childminder as an aunt!

Her mum, my sister, isn't able to do it.

Also, childminders with spaces in my area are hard to come by so as I will have a space I have offered. I look after another 3 over the week so the question of having to get other mindees (like grandparents do) won't come into it.
