CM Club: Caughs and colds

Has anyone had a parent that has said GP told parent not to send child to setting with a caugh caused by 'viral infection'? Child has 'common cold' too. I'm suddenly a bit confused.

I usually take children with 'common' colds/caughs as long as they don't have a temperature above 38. Child obviously has not been given any meds as its viral. Poor little thing was off last week with viral conjunctivitis.

Just trying to decide if child can come tomorrow.

er.... as far as i know, colds are caused by viruses, but then I am not a doctor.

i suppose it depends on your policy and how you feel about taking on a poorly child.

how about waiting to see how the LO is in the morning? sometimes kids bounce back really quickly from being under the weather (and other times of course, not!)

This is why I was confused Numberfour, because colds are caused by viruses, thought it odd that GP said don't send child to setting because of common caugh/cold. Child has no temp so usually I take them.

yes, that is very odd. not sure what i would do, though i would probably look to see who else i had that day and then decide on that basis. ie if i had a young baby or very busy after schoolers, etc then probably not. but if i had a quieter day, then maybe so.

hope it all works out!
good luck!

If the GP said the child should not attend CM then I would not let them come. I do let children come with every day coughs and colds, but would not let a child come against GP advice. Maybe there's more to it than you realise?
