CM Club:EYFS stuff for leaving children?

Katymac · 30/01/2010 13:01

So I have children leaving somewhat unexpectedly and slightly acrimoniously.

I am updating their EYFS folders today - I normally do it during working time but their are other issues.

Do I bring them all up-to-date as of today & let them have or do I keep them & try to keep updating them during the last 3 weeks they are here.

I am unlikely to have any 'spare' time between now & when they go as DD has had a rough time & I need to spend some serious time with her & I worry that adding bits & pieces during the next weeks will look a bit 'unfinished' but also worry that if I 'close' them early it is unprofessional

& how many observations would you expect to have a term?

As in
obs>next steps>evaluation
next steps>obs>evaluation

???

I would probably give it to them on their last day, even if you dont intend to add anymore to it between now and then.
If you do add to it i wouldnt worry if you dont get chane to evaluate etc.

I dont do any set amount of obs, but notice that sometimes there are only 1 or 2 per month and other months there are 7 or 8 or even more!

Dont think there should be a set number per term etc just as long as you record their achievements etc.

As we all know all children are different and have times where not much changes and other times where they are constantly achieving new things, learning new skills etc.

I will be very sad to hand over the childrens development files when they leave, after working so hard on them since September 2008 (when the eyfs came into force), although all of my mindees parents cant wait to have them, as they see them regularly, even adding things to it themselves too, and think it is a fantastic memory of their childs development! I just hope OFSTED think they are ok at my inspection on Monday!!!!!!!!

Katymac · 30/01/2010 15:18

so 50 or 60 is too many

OK I will calm down then

Thats 50 0r 60 per term? OMG!

How long is a term?

Even if its a couple of months long then you are still doing ALOT!!!!!!

Now i feel the need to start panicing...especially as OFSTED are coming on Monday and i now have no time to increase them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

Katymac · 30/01/2010 15:35

Don't be silly - you don't need that many

I take photos & use then as obs

But I will only use a few of them - I just need to choose

oh, sorry I can't advise. But could you answer a question?
What are parents supposed to take from the childminders? Are they allowed to see everything? Or does Ofsted need to see it first?

Katymac · 30/01/2010 15:53

Technically it belongs to the parents - they can take it all - but it would be nice to leave copies for the CM to show OFSTED

I will be offering to fill a memory stick with photos for these parents

It seems common practice with CM's and nurserys around here to hand them over to the new provider if and when they are requested. Personally I would rather be done with it and pass them on to parents to do what they want with. I seem to have 20-30 obs per term for under 3's and 10-15 for overs. I try not to stress over quantity as all mindees do things different.

Katymac · 30/01/2010 17:19

I am struggling with doing it atm - it is all very stressful
