do temporary weekly live-in nannies exist?

I'm thinking about going to do a short contract job overseas. I would be away for 4-6 weeks. I have one DS, almost a year old a DH who is pretty good at being hands-on but who works FT. This is a question about the options for childcare in the period I would be away - I'm looking at the various options.

In a nutshell, there would be a need for a person who could:
*get the baby up in the morning (as DH often leaves for week at 6am)
*hand over to either grandma or drop off at nursery between 8 and 9am
*deal with baby related chores eg laundry, shopping and food planning and prep
*take over again from about 1630 and start putting baby to bed

So it seems to me that I would need either a nanny or an au pair (or someone in-between) and they would need to live in because of the early getting-up time - but this could just be Sunday-Thursday staying overnight if that person wanted.

After I came back from my stint overseas the need for this help would disappear - so I'd want someone on a temporary contract (which may not suit an au pair, I guess, but might suit a nanny).

So ... do nannies who would do a temporary live-in Sunday-Thursday contract exist? Or would I need to try to hire a six-week live-in-all-week-round person. Or something else entirely?

Any ideas on this much appreciated!

I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to find a temp live-in nanny - contact your local nanny agencies and ask.

When are you look for?

I haven't got the job yet - we're only talking at the moment, but could be starting sometime March, April, May - that kind of timeframe

Lots of au pairs look for short term jobs.. 6 weeks is not unusual. Although whether they would have sufficient experience to look after a 1 yr old is another matter. You could have a look on au pair world.net and see

sure you will easily find a nanny (not ap, if leaving with a baby) who will live in

i have done temp live in jobs for a week or 2

does grandma live in/near - could she not cope for 6 weeks?

Hi, what area of London are you? I used to be a live-in Sun-Thurs, gave it up when I got married, but would be happy to do a 6 week contract for you if needed! Not working at the moment so do let me know if you'd be interested (I'm OFSTED registered, CRB checked.)

This is something I would consider but I think for me personally it'd have to be live in all week.
