Will a childminder take DD to school and back?

Sorry if this is a stupid question I've never used a childminder or nanny before.

I have a dd aged 5 who needs to get into school for 8.30. I don't drive and have a newborn and DP is at work at this time. Would a childminder pick dd up from our house and deliver her to school? If so how much would this roughly cost (school is approx 1.5 miles away). Or could we drop dd off earlier (before DP starts work eg 7.30) and then CM take her into school?

Also would a cm pick dd up from school and drop back at home? Doing it by taxi is very stressful with a newborn and there are no bus routes anywhere near. It costs roughly £10 each way by taxi.

Again apologies if these questions are silly I have no experience of cms at all.

You would probably need to drop off

so 7:30 - 8:30 maybe £3.50 - £6 (depending upon area)

Pick up - yes but normally take back to her house for you to pick up later

so maybe £7.50 - £12

Have you thought of a mother's help? or maybe a student?

phone around a few and ask i drop one child to school who i collect on way but most are dropped to me in morning the problem you may have is a child of 5 would block a space for another child needing more hours if your child is still in reception the childminder would need a variation to accept your child as an after school only child probably talking around 10 hours of childcare a week so depends on area but here would cost around £35 a week

Typically NO. Most I feel would expect you to take your child to their [the childminders] home.

If so how much would this roughly cost (school is approx 1.5 miles away).

Depends on the particular childminder. It may be part of the childcare fees, or travel may be extra. Some childminders charge a fixed before school session fee, after school session fee which includes the taking/pickup from school.

Or could we drop dd off earlier (before DP starts work eg 7.30) and then CM take her into school?

Yes, though would depend on what time drop off at the childminders would be as childminders will vary in what hours they work.

Also would a cm pick dd up from school and drop back at home?

Maybe or maybe not. Very variable. I would expect it to be more usual that you would need to collect from the childminder's home.

Phone around various childminders in your area, check which ones do the school run to your DD's school, then ask those about the costs involved and what they are able to offer with regard to pickup/return from your home.

Thank you all for your replies, I will have a chat with other mums at the school to get recommendations and then get in touch with them.

Thanks again.

Have you thought about asking parents at dd's school if any of them would be willing to collect and drop back on their way through? I did this with my dd almost 5yrs when i had a c-section in nov as couldnt drive for a few weeks. You say dd's school is 1.5 miles away. Mine is 2 and although im now able to drive i sometimes (if its not raining) walk to collect dd at end of day I take along a snack and a smoothie and we enjoy walking back and chatting about the day, this gives you and dd good exercise and baby some feshair!!
