Google has just advised me that the latest Nanny Wage Survey is being talked about in the press.

Here are links I have so far to articles about the survey:
The Nannytax Wages Survey 2009
Nannies Salaries on Rise (note this web address will probably change at a later date)
NurseryWorld article includes link to survey results. NOTE NurseryWorld Registration Needed to View... Registration is free.

Thanks for linking those Nick, makes for very interesting reading! I didn't know the ISA was going to only be required for nannies placed through agencies though, seems a bit pointless??

nannynick · 27/01/2010 18:09

ISA like the Ofsted Registration is voluntary for those who work in a private home. My view on the ISA thing is that it will be something everyone involved in childcare will need to register with at some point, even though some types of work are exempt.

interesting links thanks nick

i read the nannytax survey as was sent to mb with my payslip

I LIKE those articles. They conform to my world view

Particularly interesting comments on professionalism and compulsory registrations in the nannytax links.

The nanny tax survey does not say anything about the sources of data for their poll. Is this just nannies on their books, which is surely among the highest paid nannies since they are the nanny tax service with the highest fee.

And it surely doesn't account for nannies who aren't on the books at all -- and we all know they exist in vast quantities.

It also doesn't say anything about all the nannies who lost their jobs in 2009 as parents lost theirs.

That article is more about NannyTax PR than it is about a true poll. (as if they are responsible for the push for nannies to go gross intead of net. What was that claim all about???)

frakkinaround · 28/01/2010 12:57

Yep strix - MN is responsible for that!

BoffinMum · 31/01/2010 22:01

There are an awful lot of nannies around me who are asking this kind of money and who have been unemployed for the last 6-12 months. A few agencies have told me that they are trying to talk the nannies down a bit in salary terms and the ones who listen are getting jobs, whereas the others aren't.

That having been said, one sat on my sofa the other day, having been 6+ months without work, knowing full well what the salary was for the job, and tried to nag us up an extra £3500 a year gross plus £3000 equivalent in taxable perks. In effect asking for 32% more than I was offering.

Cloud cuckoo land.

Summersoon · 31/01/2010 22:07

@ BoffinMum: just wondered whether you had managed to hire a nanny - I think you posted that you had offered someone? I hope that it is all working out for you at last.

BoffinMum · 31/01/2010 22:11

Might have done, but I will trust nothing until she actually starts work and stays for a bit!

Summersoon · 31/01/2010 22:15

Fingers crossed!

BoffinMum · 31/01/2010 22:22

She looks pretty good, actually, and we have a temp arranged in the run-up as well, so that will hopefully take the pressure off big time.

Missus84 · 31/01/2010 23:13

I'm being underpaid!

BoffinMum · 01/02/2010 16:53

Yes, but you have a job, Missus ;.) Some of the 2009 expensive crowd will have been made redundant.
