...and this really is me just being nosy, sorry!

I have two DDs, aged nearly 3 and 2 months. If I was to magic up another room in my house and the money to pay them, what would a full time live in nanny do? Would they simply entertain the kids while I was at work, then disappear in the evening somehow? Or would they be more of a family member, pitching in when needed (ie if I wanted to nip out to the shop, or have a soak in the bath) How much roughly do they get paid? What kind of qualifications/training does your standard nanny have? Do they tend to do housework and so on?

I was just chatting with my sister who is a teacher and comparing our "jobs" (i am a sahm) and was wondering how nannying compares to each.

nothing wrong with being nosey

yes the nanny would entertain, love, care, educate, feed etc your children

generally at finishing time the nanny will go to her room/go out meet friends etc - but some live in nannies i know have a glass of wine/pizza with their boss's once a week

tbh your live in nanny would soon get very pissed off having to look after your children while you had a bath/went to shops etc - it is their free time

many employers dont reliese that and esp at weekends, the nanny does not want her charges banging on their door at 7am wanting to play

salary varies so much depending on area, age+exp of nanny - but i would say anything from £200-600 a week gross

there is no min wage for live in and it is the norm to have 1 or 2 nights babysitting thrown in with wage

i am qualified, have the nneb, i feel that all nannies should have some kind of quals, but seems that many adults think, cant get a job, i know what i will look after children and call myself a nanny and it does annoy me

i studied hard at college to get my nneb and i am very proud of it

saying that i do know some fab unqual nannies as well as some awful qual ones

the average nanny wont do housework but will do general nursery duties such as washing/ironing children clothes, keeping playroom tidy, changing beds, cooking healthy nutrious meals etc
