Nanny payroll companies

Is anyone willing to recommend a payroll company that they use for paying their nanny? I've done this month's myself but have found it ridiculously stressful being responsible for calculating everything and ensuring our wonderful nanny gets paid on time.

I'd like a company that will be efficient and understanding when it comes to:

  1. term-time only employment (and monthly payment but for weeks worked, not 12 equal payments - nanny's request!)
  2. an anticipated salary raise in a couple of months when Ofsted registration comes through
  3. working with two different childcare voucher companies (my DH and I teach in different local authorities but I'd hate our nanny to be paid late due to voucher issues and would want reassurance that we'd pay until such a time as vouchers had come through/whatever)

I'd appreciate it if any of you could point me in the direction of the perfect solution. Thank you!

My boss uses PAYEforNannies and that works well for me and my boss.
With regard to point 1, call them and chat about it. You can do that with each payroll company you are considering, the one which a) answers the call quickly b) feels it won't be a problem ... is the one to go with.
Point 2 won't be any issue, salary changes are quite common.
Point 3 isn't anything to do with payroll company. They tell you how much to pay your nanny after tax&NI deductions, how you then pay is up to you. When using vouchers, deduct the voucher amounts from the net pay, leaving the amount of pay you need to transfer via BACS/cheque and give the appropriate vouchers. Give voucher early, so it has time to clear before month end.

Thank you, especially for clearing up the vouchers thing; 1st time around we weren't eligible for vouchers because teachers' terms and conditions hadn't been varied so I've not got my head round it yet!

Do you get a payslip sent to you by PAYEfor Nannies or does your boss have to print it out? I want a company that will sort those for me as our printer and I, when in combination are unreliable.

Some payroll companies send payslips to nannies by email - how would you feel about that instead of sending a paper one in the post?

My boss gets the payslip sent to her, which she then gives to me.
If you want to record on the payslip how payment is made, you could do so by writing on the back of it... such as by putting:

Voucher1: £243
Voucher2: £243
BACS: £589 (or whatever the figure is)

I would feel fine about the payslip being e-mailed to our nanny if that worked for her but wouldn't want to assume that she'd be happy to faff about printing her own payslips.

The idea of recording how payment is made is a good one to bear in mind once the voucher company that my LA use get their act together!

payefornannies have been fine for me, and quick to answer email questions. I've only needed regular payments though, so I couldn't speak for complex payments. They're also reasonably priced. They send a set of payslips each month, and I sort out the money side, and paying the taxman quarterly (they give you detailed instructions). Would recommend based on my limited experience.

We dealt with Nannytax. They did everything (for an annual fee) so I didn't have to worry about a thing. Printed out payslips, dealt with everything on my behalf re IR... worked fine.

Thanks for the advice. I spoke to a lovely man at payefornannies and think we've settled on using them.
