I've just decided to start the ball rolling in order to become a childminder. The form to enroll on the childminding briefing meeting arrived this morning. There is a question :
Are you planning to become a: Childminder or a Home based childminder? I don't know what the difference is. I thought all childminders are home based. I googled it but I still don't know the difference. Can somebody enlighten me?

Maybe they mean Home Childcarer - care at the home of the child, or care for over 8's only.

The categories of registration as far as Ofsted are concerned are:

childminder (childminder working from own home)
childcare on domestic premises (several childminders working together from one home)
childcare on non-domestic premises (nursery or pre-school)
home childcarer (someone working from the child's home, typically a nanny)

What a stupid form! I think Nick is right - I've seen the term Home-based childminder used for childminders who provide childcare in the child's home. I don't know why you should have to declare this in your application though,as if you work solely in the child's home you wouldn't normally register as a self- employed childminder but would be employed as a nanny.

AFIK home-based childminders are those who need to be self employed, perhaps they only work in the child's home on certain days (or term-time only/or school holidays only) and provide care in their own homes (or the home of another childminder) for other families at other times.

My council offers a servide of childcare providers that work at the children home for parents who work late hours or weekend etc.

So I have recently discovered. it is called At Home Childcare Service, sothere are registered childminders who offer this service, not nannies at such. I hope this helps

@nannynick

it's a service by southwark lambeth and wandsworths boroughs in London.It's run by the borough . you will need to contact children services and ask for the childcare coordinator to register. They don't say about this service on Southwark website,I have heard of it from a childminder.
