Does anyone use a triple buggy or have a better solution?

I have a feeling that I am going to be looking after three under 2 and a halfs and I only have a double pram, there's no way I could use a sling as they're all much too big (or rather, I'm much to small to do it!).

Has anyone used a triple successfully (that didn't cost an absolute fortune), or does anyone have a cheap solution? I would contemplate a buggy board but I don't think any of them would grasp the idea, although I've never tried so I may be wrong ....

Any ideas welcome!!

I used a triple for 8 mths as our dts were 21mths when ds3 was born. I bought it for £50 on ebay then sold it for £50 on ebay

With a 8mth old and two 2.6yr old it was very very heavy. I couldn't manage the double and a sling. I used (and still do) my double out n about nipper with on twin and ds3 in it and the other twin sits on the hood - that is if they both get tired at the same time - if not they share the seat and walk.

See 2nd pic on profile for the monster machine!

How old are the children? I have been looking after 3 children of a similar age to you since October when their respective ages were 10 months, 22 months and 25 months. The 2 older children were good walkers by then and I didn't want to fork out for a triple buggy for only a few months so purchased a buggy board to go with the double buggy. Despite my initial worries like you that the older 2 would not cope with it, they both loved it and, as long as the walking distance was not more than 20 minutes coped with the buggy board really well. If we were doing a school run, we would swap over halfway in the playground. Now, 4 months on, I rarely use the double buggy (unless I am in a real rush) as the older 2 like to walk - I bought an extra set of attachments so we can attach the buggy board to the single pram too and they take it in turns to hop on and off if they need a rest. Do you know anyone with a buggy board which you could try out with the oldest child before making a purchase?

Oooggs Cute cute cute pics!! I don't think my DD would stand for being so cramped though, she throws a tantrum as it is but I don't have the patience to let her walk everywhere because she prefers to walk in any direction other than the one I'm going in, and especially likes to walk down peoples' drives

Coral Well atm I'll definitely be looking after a 9 week old, DD who is 16m and one other who is 2 tomorrow. It's only 2 days a week but I don't want to get stuck in all the time. Also in the pipeline I have an 8m/o, DD who will then be 19m and a boy who will be 17m.

I was wondering whether I could use my tandem double and attach a single to it, would look ridiculous but I might have a small chance of keeping the whole thing on the path where as a triple side-by-side looks like I wouldn't, and those triple tandem ones look utterly monsterous!

Thisisyesterday I've seen those before, looks like the one in the jockey seat would get very wet! I would try it if I had a space £300 but alas I am far too skint for that!

One of the CM in our Group has an extra seat with its own wheels which clips onto the side of her double buggy. When she doesn't need it or needs to get through a door, it simply unclips and folds small enough to go in the basket under one of the seats. I don't know where it came from though. It might be a good solution, especially if you don't anticipate having three non walkers for a long period of time. (You can get a raincover for it I believe).

sounds like a buggy pod your talking about

breakingpoint · 22/01/2010 00:21

I had 3 under 3 1/2 so used a double nipper with the 3rd either sat on the hood as it has a strong bar across (still took eldest at 5 1/2, school was a long walk!!!), on the buggy board attached to it or we also strapped a camping chair to the front on the foot rest (got quite a lot of interest in legoland!).

Anyway nipper is good and strong and copes well with all the weight.

when i had my daughter, i watched 1 child who had just turned 1 and another who had just turned 2. i just used the double buggy with a buggy board. i had got the nearly 2 year old use to walking a bit by going out random long walks while i was pregnant as once i had my daughter he had to be able to walk or go on the buggy board which he coped very well with.

Don't want to sound a killjoy but I wouldn't risk any of the more adventurous and innovative solutions suggested, especially not with minded children, just in case someone took a tumble. In fact, I'd steer clear of trying anything not recommended by the manufacturer's instructions for the buggy/buggypod/buggyboard you choose, which in my experience (I have two buggyboards and a large and growing selection of buggies!) means buggyboards are for 30 months plus, which does give them a pretty short useful life unless you have more children coming along. For what it's worth, my favorite buggyboard is the Litaf Seat 2 Go, which has a little seat on it. You might get one on EBay, but I think it was only about 25 pounds new.

I use a T3 triple jogger, but it is expensive.
I also have a "strolli rider" instead of a buggy board Its a small bike that clips on to buggy, i find it a lot easier than a buggy board because its slightly to one side instead of under your feet. That may be an option for the older child

Not read the whole thread but yes, I have an O'Baby Triple which was only £100+ (can 't remember exact cost). It's umbrella folding and fits in my car very well with a single on top if needed. I don't use it much now as all my 2 and half plus year olds walk but I do pull it out for longer outings. It's heavy on it's own but very easy to use imo. I think most are pretty heavy though. I got it from the Kiddicare website. I used to have the triple AND my baby in a sling and I'm not the strongest person in the world so can't be THAT heavy. In fact I was pushing it when heavily pregnant with ds2 so it really must be not that bad . We (me and dh) now have up to 6 x 1-2 yr olds so tend to use a mixture of doubles and singles atm.

HTH

I have an abc everest double with the abc toddler seat on top to make triple. It's fantastic, heavy to lift and enormous folded but great for walking.

lollipopmother · 24/01/2010 11:37

I've seen the OBaby ones and they definitely seem to be the cheapest. I can't seem to search on Ebay just for triples as it comes up with every double AND triple, very irritating, but I'll keep looking!

I've seen the toddler seats and think they look good but I have an M&P double that I don't think would take the weight, or a tandem Graco which wouldn't be suitable either I don't think.

Second Sillymillysmummy on the everest, there's a mum at school with triplets and she rotates them, one on the roof, two underneath - it does look very compact and comfortable.
