Not sure what I need and if there's anyone who will do it?

Am pregnant with DC2, DS1 is 2.5. Am booked in for a C-Section but we have NO ONE to look after DS1 while I'm in doing the C-section with DH by my side (hopefully). Close friends who I would usually ask will have their hands full with their own newborns and I just couldn't impose on them. Can anyone make a suggestion as to what our options are & also what they might cost?

I'm pretty sure most nanny agencies could provide you with an "emergency" nanny. The cost varies on where you are in the country

Agree with the emergency agency route. You could also offer someone some part-time work say 1-4 weeks before baby 2 is born to get to know your DC/their routine/likes/dislikes so they're not going in blind - and for this you would pay less as advertising yourself.

It doesn't have to be full-time, you could just have someone in a couple of hours a week to play with your DC, you could advertise on Gumtree, Mumsnet, Netmums, or Nannyjob, or potentially do any of your friends have nannies that could possibly cover?

I am guessing as having a c-section you have a date given to you as long as baby doesnt decide to make an early appearance!!

why not advertise for a temp nanny to cover say a week whilst you are having c-section and to help out for that first week, and the temp nanny could also maybe do the odd babysit or afternoon before hand to get to know you and your soon beforehand.

or alternatively look for a local childminder who would temporarily for that week have your child.

sorry forgot to add depending on the area you are and assuming you want an experienced and qualified nanny rather than a newly qualified nanny to have sole charge of your child then you would be looking at £8-£11 gross an hr and a temp nanny would be self employed and you would not need to be responsible then for paying tax and ni.

yes most agencys do temp nannys - some are permament temps , others like me work part time and do temp/ad hoc work

what area are you in?

If you stick up your contact details (general throwaway email addy if you don't want your genuine one on here) I think you'll have a couple of people interested to reply directly through here.
