My daughter (8) and I made three lots of play dough yesterday. We did the one which you dont need to cook. So glad as play dough is not easy to remove from pans.

Today enjoyed using it will little girl who is almost two. I am looking forward to taking it out for the older kids this afternoon.

I even put some glitter in the play dough!!

Anyone having fun using play dough?

Fantastic stuff - we made lots of white play doh last week and raided the Mr Potato Head bits and pieces to make snow people and snow monsters! Even the "cool" 10 year olds had a go and wanted me to take photos of their creations!

Have you got the recipie?

I gave up doing the cooked stuff as it costs a fortune in new pans Just buy the ready made stuff now.

Ooh, I made some today too......my 21mo DD hasn't been well so she wasn't up to going out but she loved the playdough. I made it bright purple.....t'was lovely. I used the Tana Ramsey no cook recipe.

Watching this thread with interest as I've not made playdough before but DD who is 16m played with some at the childrens' centre today and seemed to enjoy it.

I love playdough! You jsut have to make sure you keep stirring and fill the saucepan with water as soon as you are finished.
I have been using the cooked recipe for years but have discovered a microwave one.

I use the cooked recipe and have never had a problem with the pans. Just wash them straight away. Makes great play dough. I sometimes make white play dough and let them loose on it with felt pens.

Interested in no cook version (lazy).

We buy ready-made and DS loves loves loves it. It does go dry very quickly though. How does homemade compare? (I have quite high standards regarding how moist it has to be to be fun -- am probably fussier than DS )

As long as you keep in in a sealed container or wrapped up in a plastic bag it will last months.

JackBauer · 19/01/2010 08:55

I made a load yesterday as well, red, blue and yellow.
I have a special stainless steel milk pan I use for playdough type activities, just stick water in it straightaway and it soaks off easily enough.
I much prefer the cook way as when you knead it it is all warma nd pliable and lovely, so you get a good play until it is cool enough for DC's

I had to chuck our last batch that I made about 6 months ago as it had all gone dull green. I keep it in a big tupperware tub with a load of cutters and shapes.

I've never had trouble with pans either. Will try the non cook one day.

Blue came out green? lol We made purple today and I have blue all over my fingers from it leaking out of the bottle GRRR.

Speaking of different recipes, am I right in saying SALT is there just to stop kids from wanting to eat it? If so, I'm going to stop putting it in as I swear that is the very reason my ds2 keeps wanting to eat it!! lol
