Mindies sleeping

I have 4 today, all asleep at the same time, a 13 month, 17 month, 22 months and a 2.2 year old ( Variation in place thank you Ofsted, it only took 2 weeks) It is sooo quiet, I am catching up with daily diaries, observations etc

Such a shame, I will have to wake them at 2.00 as I am going to drop them all off at parents' workplace as the snow is coming down fast! ( I have a 4x4, easier for me to go to them, than them attempt my lane!)

I'd love a couple more snow days to catch up on paperwork, as I spent the whole of the school hols in Bali!

How long did it take you to establish this routine?
How did you get them to sleep?
My DS is at CM and he needs a daytime nap. Not taking a nap at CM so sleeps in the evening instead... which means its really hard to get him to sleep at a decent time at night, and of course difficult to wake him up in the morning.

I have always had a flexible routine, but the morning is an activity, outing, or group, lunch at 12- 12.30, nappy changes, and then around 1ish I put sleeping mats down with their choice of blanket, they are encouraged to lie down, 2 of them drop off to sleep straightaway. I read a story or sing quietly to the others. All the time, in a quiet tone, patting their back occasionally, and off they go!

One 2 year old doesn't always need a sleep, as she sleeps from 6.30pm - 7.00am at home, but she knows it is quiet time, she has a book on her mat, she will roll around and I will just say sshhh, sleepytime, she often drops off for 30 minutes or so.

As they get older, they understand it is quiet time and more importantly MY time. I get to sit and read the paper, have a cup of tea and go on mumsnet!

They wake up in varying degrees, we used to have to do a school run at 2.45 so had to wake them by 2.30, but now they can sleep until 3.00. We then have a drink and snack, nappy change etc.

I have a lovely photo of all of them asleep at the same time with a cat asleep in the middle!

It is important to have a sleep in the day, they need it or, as you find they are too overtired to sleep at the right time at home. All of my minded children sleep really well at home too, and have done since they started with me, parents always used to say, in the early days of starting with me, gosh they slept so well last night , what did you do?

stop showing off!

MrsJamin · 21/01/2010 13:29

as someone who uses a CM I find it quite offensive that you'd suggest the children need to understand that you have YOUR time. What are you being paid for? Or are you just joking?

xoxcherylxox · 21/01/2010 13:35

i think she may just mean a quick sit down recharge batteries, like any parent would try to do while child is asleep so that they are fit for a busy active afternoon when they wake up.

juneybean · 21/01/2010 13:42

She also doesn't get a break MrsJamin

Mine (13m, 23m, and 2.3) all sleep at the same time, straight after lunch too.

And I spent the Christmas holidays in egypt {grin]

Hiya Ali

sorry I am in a really negative mood about CMs today, due to reliability issues.

Apologies. Of course you need a sit down and a cup of tea.

alibubbles · 21/01/2010 15:12

MrsJamin I need to go for wee sometime during the day, perhaps I should just wear nappy, would that make you happier? We are on our feet from 7.30 - 6.30. some c/m's work longer hours than that, so you can work.

Does your boss not allowed to leave your desk for a wee and have a cup of tea?

It is a legal requirement for shop workers to have a 20minute break after 5 hours, all want is a wee without an audience!

MrsJamin I can count on one hand the number of days I have had off sick in 24 years.

Now, I'm off to the park with 4 under 2.4, like to see you do that without doing a wee first.
