Has anyone ever looked after a mindee while their mother is in labour? DO you need to be regged for overnight stays to do this?

Hi,

Just trying to work out what to do with DD whilst I am in labour with DC2 as we have no family close by.

Has anyone ever looked after a mindee while their mother is in labour?

I don't believe that my c/m is registered for overnight stays so would this mean she wouldn't be allowed to do it, or is it different for emergency type situations?

Would it be really cheeky of me even to ask her about this?

SHe has 3 dc of her own and obv has to get up in the morning to look after the mindees so am wondering if it's far too big of an ask considering we could be calling on her in the middle of the night.

BUt on the other hand it would be perfect as she knows DD so well.

I know I can only ask her, but I wondered whether it's a bit of a cheeky thing to ask!

I have had mindees overnight whilst mum is in labour, I was delighted to do so, and it was great in the morning when asked has my baby come yet"

Delighted mindie flew into the bathroom where DH was shaving, yelling" Guess what, I've got a baby sister!" Fortunately I had warned him and he had a bathrobe on. She did the same with my DS and DD too, they al knew, but pretended that didn't for her sake.

It was the most natural thing in the world for her to stay, it wasn't planned, I just washed her school uniform overnight, she wore a t shirt of DD's to bed and I have spares of everything like toothbrushes etc.

Yes, you are supposed to be registered for overnight care, but it was an emergency

I wouldn't hesitate if this happened and I'm not registered for overnight care. If it came to that I wouldn't even charge.

My childminder did and it was brilliant. She had plenty of warning, so kindly registered herself for overnight in advance. It was by far the best solution for us (no family) and worked very well.

I am registered for overnight care, and have offered one of my mindee's mum this service. I was meaning it as a favour, without a charge, but have just realised that I'm not sure whether I did point that part out . .

I'm not registered for overnight care but in an urgent situation (which I personally believe a mum in labour with no othere support is) I would definitely have my mindee, as soemone else said I would do it for free if it were the way to get around it.

I've done it and I registered for overnight care in advance.

i used to be a childminder and i did this for one of my mindees. I wasn't registered for overnight care, but i didn't charge her so, we got round it that way. ask her, can do no harm x

I did but did the overnight at their house

So effctively nannying/baby sitting I guess

I am registered for overnight care for just this type of emergency. I think it would probably be okay anyway in the circumstances anyway, but you do need to consult/inform OFSTED immediately if you either go over your registration numbers or have children overnight and you are not pre-approved to do that, so there would be a risk that they might say no, so better in my opinion to be sure in advance.

My CM offered this for me, but, as her children are all older, she would have come round to my house herself (or sent her 20-yo daughter, who is her assistant) to stay with my DCs in my house.

We have no family locally, and she us fantastic with offering to help when there is a crisis. My friend's children are also with her and, when my friend's DH had a car accident, our CM took her two children on a Saturday in order that my friend could go to the hospital, and kept them till my friend's MIL could get there (yes, I would have taken them too but we were on holiday). Good CMs are the dog's cojones
