Ok was up lots in night (twice with DS, mostly worrying about Ofsted) and managed to sleep through alarm and doorbell to miss parent dropping their child off.

I feel awful about it and its worse as I havent' had them long so they won't know I'm usually reliable.

Oh well, have offered parents a free day to make up for it so hopefully it'll all be ok, but it feels miserable now. Think will be off to buy a 2nd alarm clock today!

I overslept once, luckily dh was up and let them in. They didn't seem bothered, but I was mortified. I've heard of childminders opening the door in their dressing gown for early arrivals but thats just not me!

I have alarms set on my phone and watch as well as my alarm clock, just to be sure

I have answered the door in my dressing gown once, when I was woken by the parent banging on the door. Never done it again since

Ok, glad its not just me - although missing them completely seems to make it worse. Think I'd have woken up if she banged and that she just rang the doorbell politely and then left.

Still haven't heard from them, but hope it'll all be ok. Certainly losing a days money will eb an incentive for me to spring out of bed in future!

My childminder would oversleep sometimes and hop out of bed and answer the door in her dressing gown. TBH I didn't mind at all and just thought it was 'homely' and a bit funny! Of course it was about 20 years ago and I didn't expect a nursery type service - just for my dd to be happy and part of a family - I liked it that she slept on the sofa laid out next to the dog, asked for bits of cheese from the cm's DH's lunch, and her little boy wandered around without his pants on etc etc!!

I had one come an hour early once 6.30 instead of 7.30, mum forgot to mention it. Anyway was just getting out of the shower but DH got the door. It was a bad hair day that one.

blimey, dont be too hard on yourself, everyone is late once in their lives.. its allowed, tell her to hammer on the door next time.lol

dmo · 12/01/2010 18:55

this has happened to me 2 or 3 times slept through the alarm i now have my mobile next to me also set and ask parents to phone me

Thanks everyone- really glad nobody has said how awful it was or that she should find a new childminder asap!

Its hard when people have such early starts - its lovely to be able to say how flexible you'll be, but when it actually comes down to getting up at 6ish then its not quite so nice (although I keep reminding myself how much earlier the mum must get up to get her to me so early!).

atworknotworking an hour early would not be good! Hope you charged them lots for the extra time!
