Advice re EYFS

Hi All,

I am a new childminder starting in January, although I would say I have a fair idea or what is required for EYFS observations etc - one thing I am not 100% sure on and I could do with some tips - do all planned activities have to be suitable for all the ages I will be minding - I will be minding 3 children - 8 months, 3 and a half and 18 months and obviously if it does might have to think a bit harder about how each age range can be included?

Hi, I am not a CM, but am a nursery nurse so have some experience of the EYFS!
I didn't want your post to go unanswered.
The focus of the EYFS is on individualised planning for each child.
That would mean your activity could be aimed at just one child.
Or the same activity could be planned for all 3 children, but they would all be expected to achieve different outcomes.

i.e i'm guessing; you could get out the bricks
and the 8 month old might be able to stack up a few,
the 18 month old should be able to stack up 5 or 6,
and the 3 year old might be able to tell you the colour of the bricks and to count as she/he stacks up bricks and builds houses. (Differentiated by outcome)
Any other ideas? Its an interesting subject.

If you got all the bricks the 8 month old would use his/her senses to explore them.
ie bang them together, put them in their mouth, throw them etc

the 18 month old would be able to build and would be guided by the adult

the 3 year old would concentrate more and might be building for a purpose and could plan and tell you what they are making and could use reasoning and problem solving 'what would happen if we....how could we....?'
