CM's Annual leave

How many days is your CM's annual leave? Because our CM took 5 days in December, and I could not find anything in contract about it.

I'm a CM and take 20 days a year (i.e. 4 weeks). I don't get paid, some do. I give a min of a month notice but usually tell them at the beginning of the year, for the rest of the year. My parents have known about next years hols since Oct/Nov time.

But, we're all different. I don't see a problem with CM taking 5 days hols in dec, however unless you weren't given notice first. Does your CM have an NCMA contract? If so, all this info will be on part 2.

I used to take 4wks and told parents in January when my leave for the year would be. Last year I got them to sign to say they'd been advised. As self employed people though, we all have individual terms and conditions and you need to clarify annual leave with your own cm.

Mamulik, did your minder give you notice of her (his?) intended closure? Have you not negotiated/discussed holidays in your contract?

Being self employed childminders set their own working hours/times and can take holidays as and when they please - the best practice thing to do though is either negotiate what holidays (and costs) for both parties or as I do - have it written into my P&Ps and contract (and I discuss this at contract signing) that I can take upto 20 days holiday per year (although it might be above this at times - so far though in 5 yrs it has always been way way less than the 20 days).

NCMA recommend that minders take breaks/holidays.

I take at most 4 weeks although in reality this year I have taken 17 days. I give at least 4 weeks notice, usually at least 3 months though.

What kind of contract do you have with her? Offical NCMA or MM or a made up one?

i am a childminder and take 5 weeks holiday plus some bank holidays i class christmas day and boxing day as bank holidays and not annual leave. i always take 2 weeks at christmas usually the exact same as the school holidays.

I think annual leave is a misnomer, unless you have negotiated paid holidays with the parents. The term "Annual Leave" suggests an amount of paid leave. I have always notified my holidays in September for the year up to end of the following August (usually 4 weeks), but I have always made it clear to new clients that I may need to take more than the normal 4 weeks, and as much notice as possible will be given, and never less than the 4 weeks stated in the contract. Additional days would in any case not be taken if the parents cannot cover them. I am not paid for any of my holidays.
