hi everyone

I have a nanny starting in the new year. I just wondered whether i have to tell my homes & contents insurance company that there will be someone working in my house?

I don't think you do have to tell them - but you may wish to check that your home insurance covers you for employer's liability in the house. Most of the home insurance companies we have been with did at no extra cost - if yours does not then you should look into buying extra cover for yourself in case the nanny slips etc in your house.

The nanny should have their own insurance policy too for any liability on their side.

I don't think you do as most policies provide Employers Liability cover for domestic workers as standard.
Always best though to check the wording in your policy.

I would check with them partly to check on liability cover but also to see if it affects other parts of your policy, for example the people we used to insure with said that we would no longer be covered for theft unless there was clear evidence of a break-in so we needed to be very vigilant about leaving doors/windows locked (current insurer is not so fussy though).
