Just posted off my application for registration as a CM. Expecting social workers to call round soon to check the place out. Anything I can do to prepare for it? Nervous about the whole business side of it all. Is this a bad time of year to be starting off? So any tips and help and hand-holding welcome. Thanks!

If you are in England it will be OFSTED not SS you need to look for info on the OFSTED website about 'registering' I am surprised your local council haven't given you loads of info before letting you have the form

Have you been on the ICP course yet??

Hi and thanks for all your replies. I am not in England so hence the social workers not ofsted. I have been on no courses... what are all these abbreviations- ICP and CRB? Think pre-reg courses are optional here. Not in it for "easy money"... I have worked with kids before so know it is faaaar from easy! Anyone else out there not in England?

Where are you then?

Introduction to Childminding Practice
Criminal Records Bureau

Think it best that you tell us where you are Pinkmarshmallow. Childcare laws, regulations, training requirements etc all vary depending on location.

I'm guessing you may be in Ireland, probably Northern Ireland. If so, then NICMA.org may be a useful website.
The ICP in England, looks like it is similar to the IHC (Introduction to Homebased Childcare) in Northern Ireland.
[[http://www.nicma.org/06/publications/A%20guide%20to%20Registration.pdf Guide to Registration (PDF) has a flowchart at end showing registration process in NI, for those interested.

Pinkmarshmallow · 12/01/2010 15:58

Resurrecting my old thread.... was busy over Xmas and New Year and away on holidays so only checking in again now.
You guessed right, Nannynick, I'm in Northern Ireland.
Got a call from early years team today asking for my declaration of health form....I posted it before Xmas so it must have got lost in the post....grrr! Hoping I won't have to pay GP again for another one.
thebody, that sounds great...you've given me great hope. What area are you in, btw?
Thanks again for your replies.
