Hi

I'm a registered childminder but on the side, I like to build websites. After doing a lot of research and seeing what other companies charge, I've decided to set myself up building cheaper websites for other childminders and small businesses.

Any idea's for a catchy business name would be grately appreciated as this is an area I'm not so good at!

Cheers

They're all OK, but a bit long.

They do however describe what you do.

One thing to consider is whether one day you might feel somewhat restricted by this niche and want to convey a more general Web desing service IYSWIM...

... though there's absoultely nowt wrong with being specialised.

Could you come up with something just based on 'cm' (if that is commonly used by all child minders...) ?

HellyBelly · 02/09/2005 20:52

I know, others are long - said I was rubbish with names

I DO want to branch out eventually so if anyone can think of something that's not just for childminders, that's fine too!

Need all the help I can get!

mindtheweb ?

(doesn't cm also mean cervical muchs btw? )

HellyBelly · 04/09/2005 09:57

Sorry I didn't follow this up yesterday, I spent the day at the NEC (Christmas product launch for my party plan work)

Anyway, that's for your suggestion soupdragon, PMSL at your comment - good point! .

Just to confirm, these are the suggestions so far:

www.sites4childminders.co.uk (I like but someone has similar - www.websitesforchildminders.co.uk)
www.babyweb.co.uk
www.kiddyweb.co.uk
www.childminderweb.co.uk
www.childmindernet.co.uk
www.childminderwebs.co.uk
www.childminder-webs.co.uk
www.childmindersite.co.uk
www.childmindersites.co.uk
www.childminder-websites.co.uk
www.childminderwebsites.co.uk
www.kiddiecare.co.uk
www.teddiestechnology.co.uk
www.tiggywinklestechnology.co.uk

www.thespiderweb.co.uk
www.thewebsitedesigncompany
www.worldwidewebsites.co.uk
www.kreativekoncepts.co.uk
www.d-zign.co.uk
www.webminders.co.uk (name already taken)
www.mindtheweb.co.uk
www.icanmakeyougetbigger.co.uk
www.thecreative.co.uk

I'm wondering if I'd be better off having a more generalised name and make clear in website that I specialise in childminder sites, rather than have it just for childminders type name IYSWIM????

Any names stand out to you?

top one still best. there will be similar names and competition everywhere, regardless of your chosen business...

am sure there are enough cms who need sites that both businesses will do well !

you can always come up with a 'general' web design names later for 'ordinary' work.

HellyBelly · 04/09/2005 10:41

I agree, was just worried that the one who had the similar name is from mumsnet and had post to my other thread. She did say it was fine though!

SoupDragon · 04/09/2005 10:42

Er.. idn't Kiddiecare already a baby equipment site?

goosey · 04/09/2005 10:55

Helly I DO think it's fine - it may even direct more customers my way lol as the name is so similar and vice verce
You could always use the site4 bit as your trademark and just add other occupations as offshoots eg sites4plumbers etc I think it's a great idea.

HellyBelly · 04/09/2005 11:03

Good idea Goosey - thanks!

Soupdragon - i haven't checked all these names yet, working through them bit by bit! Just checked this one and you're right!

they sponsor the Products topic on MN!!

SoupDragon · 04/09/2005 11:06

designs4sites? sites4you? sites-R-us?

nannynick · 04/09/2005 11:33

remember to check for trademarks.

You can't for example have "R Us", Geoffrey Inc will get rather upset!

US Trademarks
UK Trademakrs

HellyBelly · 13/09/2005 21:29

Sorry I never thanked you for the last couple of posts - been so busy this last week or so that I've only popped onto mumsnet on the odd occasion

Anyway, I've decided to probably go with a name unrelated to childminding as I now have 2 websites to do for completely different businesses.

Here were the mumsnet suggestions, what do you think???

www.thespiderweb.co.uk
www.thewebsitedesigncompany
www.worldwidewebsites.co.uk
www.kreativekoncepts.co.uk
www.d-zign.co.uk
www.webminders.co.uk (name already taken)
www.mindtheweb.co.uk
www.icanmakeyougetbigger.co.uk
www.thecreative.co.uk
www.designs4sites.co.uk
www.sites4you.co.uk

All feedback very much appreciated - need all the help I can get!

Don't worry nannynick, I will look into trademarks etc before going ahead with anything - thanks for the links though!

I wouldn't use
www.icanmakeyougetbigger.co.uk

it's a bi naughty

HellyBelly · 13/09/2005 22:11

PMSL - yeah, see what you mean!

OP posts:
Flabulous · 14/09/2005 20:29

www.babylove.co.uk

HellyBelly · 15/09/2005 10:16

Flabulous - thanks for your suggestion but since having interest from other small businesses, I've decided to build websites for anyone but to have a special section for childminders where they still get the special rate.

I've got a name now. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions!
