I was never given the option of paying monthly, it was all in one go for me.

I know this sounds patronising, but you have been putting your tax money away haven't you ??

Summerfruit · 09/12/2009 21:34

No I didnt we were struggling too much, thank you for answering my post.

IIRC (& it's been a while - I don't earn enough to pay tax anymore) you have to pay it all in January plus half of next years

Let me go & look

Summerfruit · 09/12/2009 21:41

Please Katy..All in one plus half of next year ??? My god, I'm going to be ruined

you have to pay all for 08/09 and (epending on how much) 1st payment on account (half of 08/09 amount) for 09/10.

But talk to them, they are very open to payment plans at the moment, quite a few of our clients have negotiated payment terms even though they have the cash.

Katymac · 09/12/2009 21:48

You have had some (one months worth)money in your bank account since May 08......presumably earning a very small amount of interest. HMRC could have asked for it then

morningpaper · 09/12/2009 21:49

Make sure you claim all your allowances

You will need to pay (roughly) 1,000 in tax plus probably 500 in advance for next year

Katymac · 09/12/2009 21:50

Do you need a hand with your expenses?

Summerfruit · 09/12/2009 21:57

I have misunderstood, its now time to get back on track. Thank you for giving me the link !

Call the Business Payment Support Service (HMRC helpline) on 0845 302 1435. They should allow you to spread it over 12 months.
If your tax bill for 2008/9 is less than £1,000 you won't need to make a payment on account for 2009/10. Have a look at this link: www.hmrc.gov.uk/payinghmrc/selfassessment.htm#3 which give details of budget plans and paying by direct debit which may be an option for you in the future. If you have any difficulty you can get advice from TaxAid 0n 0845 1203779. Link to their booklet on tax debt is www.taxaid.org.uk/tax_debt.cfm

Katymac - I'm going to bear that in mind when I review my account. Thank you so much, you are a star.

Roquefort - Also thank you so much for putting the effort into giving me these numbers, I'm going to call up at lunch time. Thank you thank you

you usually would have to pay 2008 to 2009 but plus half of this year but maybe theyll just let you pay 2008 to 2009 if you explain. i tend to try and do my tax return as soon as i get it by may lastest so that i no well in advance what i need to pay and i start making weekly payments right up until the 31st jan

Summerfruit · 10/12/2009 09:06

I didnt pay anything on the 31rst january 2009 as I have started to work on 30rst of April 2008. I havent been good with all of this, I'm going to call and try to sort something out. Thank you xox !
