Nannies... do you get gifts for the children to give to their own parents?
I don't think I have done that in the past, though wondered if that was the norm or not.

What about from you to mum and dad... do you get them anything. I usually do, though I'm struggling this year in finding something suitable for both of them. Do you get your employers a present? One each, or joint?

Ours usually makes something with the kids but she is quite crafty; last year we got a photo frame with pics of the kids.

how about making xmas cookies with the children easy enough to make stars and trees and let children decorate then wrap in cellophane or buy a nice box and tie with a ribbon.

or do chocolate shards - melt choc and spread out really thin on a greased baking tray and then sprinle on a topping such as dried chopped cherries, flaked almonds etc etc and leave to dry then cut into long triangles (shards!) - do some dark choc, milk choc and white choc ones and wrap in nice gift boxes.

Our lovely ex-nanny made a calendar with the kids - it was a huge one with an A4 size space on each page so they could stick on a picture for each month. Each picture was themed for the month, so for example for February dd did a heart collage (valentines), for July (ds's birthday month) ds drew his favorite toys. Some months there was one A4 picture by one child and some months they did an A5 picture each. It was ace and I was wiping away tears when I opened it!
(I don't expect presents from nannies etc. but chocolate always goes down well in this house).

It's my first christmas, I'm going to make something from the little one and I've got a box of chocs from me.

nannynick · 06/12/2009 19:47

Think I got chocolates last year.
I was thinking more along the lines of cosmetics this year. Not sure about arts & crafts, there have been a few disasters recently when 23mth old has got hold of pens, paint etc. Not really at the drawing or printing stage, more at the cover the entire thing stage.

I tend to get something for the family - usually a board game - rather than try and get something for the parents.
