Transitioning from CM to nursery - how does that work??

My DS is going to be 3 in March so eligible for the paltry whatever it is of free childcare from the gvmt. Lovely. I know I can also use that on my CM which is dandy but am thinking that actually a few mornings a week of semi-formal nursery stuff might not be such a bad idea in an easing-him-in-gently way. But how does that work? Do your CMs do the pick ups/drop offs when they haven't previously? I know mine does them for one child but he is her grandson so that's slightly different.

Any advice/experience/tips welcome. TIA

Some do - but are likely to charge you for the time they are at nursery (especially if it's the 2.5/3 hr sessions as they can't earn between the drop off & collection)

round here the cms do it

but you have to pay them the whole morning if they are doing picking ups and drop offs as they stay if your child is upset or they pick up if your child needs collecting early so you wouldnt be taking advantage of the free sessions as you'd still be paying the cm

Thanks

I don't mind paying because it's what I'm paying at the moment anyway so that's fine. it's just the wondering if it's cheeky to ask. And are my 15 hours valid at any nursery? There is a really lovely one that the grandson goes to which I would love my DS to go to as well because it's great and it's on the corner but will they take government vouchers? How does it work?

Should be usable at any nursery but many in my area run sessions which are LONGER than the government funded time, thus they charge for the additional time. If you only want the free entitlement you may not all providers will accommodate that. Also nurseries don't have to be part of the scheme, it isn't compulsory so you may find some nurseries don't provide the free educational sessions.
