Leaving present

Our nanny is leaving after nearly 4 years - things have been a little strained from both sides since she resigned but i would still like to make the leaving as nice as possible.

What sort of things have people given their nanny and what sort of things would the nannies out there be pleased with?

Thanks!

I've had a bottle of Champagne plus pictures drawn by the children.

Something crafty from the kids. And a nice card from you with a note about staying in touch or similar.

I'm leaving my nanny position after 3 1/2 years soon - and I can tell you that she/he will miss your child/ren like crazy - you can feel like a second/third parent and love your charges accordingly. Nannying is such a unique situation. It's a job, yet you become so personally involved and invested.

I'd love a photo of us all (not that one has ever been taken!) or a nice one of the children. we have some time left and i think i'll suggest MB or DB take a photo of us.

More than a present I'd like to keep in contact with them. It's so often said that families will keep in touch with nannies - but everyday life and settling the new nanny in can push thoughts of contact aside. A quick chat or email can make all the difference.

Having said all that it doesn't sound like your nanny is necessarily leaving on great terms - so if you are thinking of a commercial gift - then an item of clothing you know she'll like, theatre tickets, new phone - i have no idea what your budget is. Hope i've helped - and good luck to you all with the changes taking place.

Hi - thanks for your messages and suggestions - particularly the ideas from drinkyourmilk.

Good luck with your move too and i agree keeping in touch is the most important thing for everyone.
