Au pairs in remote country village

I have been lurking on this area for a while, reading about people who have au pairs. My medium term aim is to move to an au pair and am factoring it in when we look at moving to a bigger house. This is all imminent now and I want to get some advice. I am still looking 2 years off for having an au pair, mind you!
I live in a quiet village in a remote part of UK. There is no train station, the nearest is 2 miles away (not a pleasant walk). So transport links are not good. There is an active village social life but it is centred around outdoor activities. I am just wondering if anyone has had any success in attracting au pairs to a more remote location.
thanks

Best bet is to have a look on your local gumtree site - that will tell you if there are au pairs in the area you are interested in. If they drive it's not such a problem. We live remotely and have had a few au pairs interested (but we are going for a nanny now).

why nanny please? I have been weighing up the au pair thing as my two will be at nursery and school but I am hoping there will be a number 3- hence why I was going to wait on the au pair front till baby older

Au pairs don't care for children under 2 and I have a 16 month old. Also I would rather pay a bit extra for someone who has experience. Having said it's proving bloody hard to find anybody at the minute

Au pairs can care for under 2s - it's up to you to decide whether you want to employ one to do so.

We live in village a few miles from life a station.

Works fine so long as you have a car for their use (including for them to use at weekends)

I am in a village with unbelievable public transport. I can't believe that if you take a bus out you have to wait for the following day to get a bus back.

But we have an au pair and they cope. Our nearest big town is a 30 - 40 min drive away with a fairly large AP community. I provide a car and pay for "local" petrol to ensure they have a social life (after reading the riot act about drink driving and how quickly they will be asked to leave should this occur). That said current AP has hooked up with other folk of her age in the village and prefers to walk to the pub in the village so she can have a drink rather than meeting up with other APs.

If you are in a remote location gumtree is not much use as it tends to be focussed on towns and cities. I use au pair world and am open and up front about the location. I saw one family on their advertising from a Scottish Island - made us sound positively urban.

thanks all, I will continue lurking while I consider timescale for au pair. Realistically it would be 2011. The au pair world sounds good, dadinsteadofmum. I am sure I will come back with more questions in future
