Obv my day for new threads, but would you consider taking on a 9mth old and a 1yr old for 2 days pw - parents are friends and want the same days, but DS is 13mths and I only have a double buggy, so til 1 of them could walk I'd be pretty much house bound which is not at all ideal or what we're used to...

any thoughts/opinions would be appreciated!

could u use a baby sling or rucksack to help you get out and about?

or beg / borrow / steel a triple buggy? (I know someone who borrowed a triple from a toy library)

AvadaKedavra · 15/11/2009 10:57

I would but only if I could get a triple buggy/buggy pod/backpack thing.

Not fair to keep the children (and you for that matter!) cooped up inside. you neeed to be able to get outside.

Have you enough highchairs, what about sleeping arrangements? What about fire evacuations, could you do it with 3 non walkers?

bigchris · 15/11/2009 11:03

do you drive?

I wouldn't want a cm who didn't go to parks, groups etc

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/11/2009 12:54

double buggy+buggy board or as nannyl get a triple buggy

as a cm you need to have fire/safety regs in place

AvadaKedavra · 15/11/2009 13:02

a buggy board wouldn't work for that age group and def not in winter, cold, rain yeuch!

yes do you drive? you'd need to be able to fit all the car seats in too.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/11/2009 13:08

i have used a buggy board for a 13mth (obv walking) notalways pratical and cant use for a long time but sometimes needs must

but for a 10mins walk to park/M&T etc should be fine

but only if walking

When I went back to work after maternity leave, ds2 was 10 wks old and the mindees were 8m, 17m and 18m. Ds2 was in a sling and I had a triple buggy then when the biggest was happy to walk on the school run etc, ds2 went in the triple buggy. The triple was a good price from Kiddiecare.com and athough heavy in itself, I found it very very good and it fit easily in the boot of my Sharan as it's umbrella folding. I did have to make sure it fit through the school gate before I bought it and it JUST did so was fine. I think it's perfectly doable but you need to be able to get out and about as being stuck indoors all day is no good for ANY of you!!

leeloo1 · 15/11/2009 17:29

Thanks for the advice! I guess I'll look into the price/availability of triple buggies, but its not really ideal. Does anyone know which buggy board would fit a phil & teds sport (thinking of having an older toddler not for the little ones)? I think they say you can't use one but I'm pretty sure I saw a mum out and about with one once?!?

Why are these mindees like buses - both sets of parents only want 2 days a week, so why does it have to be the same 2 days???

I do drive btw, but living where we do in London there are parks and about 7 children's centres within a 5-10 min walk or bus ride, whereas driving/parking can be a nightmare, so I'm not planning to drive with mindees.

Tho loooong this is easy to push with front wheel steering, i made it round Tesco's and normal streets/pavements.

There is an earlier version with smaller wheels and no steering but would think it hard to manoeuvor.

AvadaKedavra · 15/11/2009 18:08

Sorry a buggy board can't be used with a P&T in toddlers mode. And I really have to say you need to rethink and that right now you won't manage with a buggyoard with children that young, it's not going to be safe enough for one, and for two there's the weather to take into account.

susiey · 15/11/2009 20:47

my cm had 3 1 year olds and she used a side by side double and a litaf seat ( with reins attatched to the buggy) and it seemed to work for her while they were not able to walk any distance. just meant a lot of swapping around when hap time came

xoxcherylxox · 15/11/2009 22:41

what about a buggy pod clips onto the side of the pram. you can even buy the sun shade and the rain cover for it

leeloo1 · 15/11/2009 22:58

Thanks so much for the help Susiey and Cheryl - both fab ideas! I couldn't get my head round the logistics of taking 3 little ones out (and don't really want the expense of buying a triple buggy when it wouldn't be needed for long - and I've only just bought a double!) so one of these extra seats is the perfect idea! Hurray!

I don't use the buggy for long trips so this'll enable me to get to mum and baby groups/stay and plays etc. I'll wait to see if they definitely sign contracts before I buy anything though [restrains impulse to go shopping emoticon]

What about the Litaf Seat to Go? Or a sling?

Danthe4th · 16/11/2009 13:56

I mind 2 19 month olds and a 15 month old and have done for some time now, I do it for 3 days a week, but I have to say if I just wanted to walk I couldn't have managed without my triple buggy, I picked up a pedigree with a seat in front for £200 second hand.
But I have to drive to most places the childrens centre is a 22 mile round trip, you are soooo lucky, and I manage with the double and one walking a short distance now.
Personally if you don't have to walk far I would use a back pack for the lightest, and by next year when the weather is better and you want to go further a buggy board will be a good option or I use the bibi strolli rider which is brill.

Scarfmaker · 16/11/2009 20:23

You are probably trying to think of ways around this and thinking it might be ok but physically, mentally and logistically I don't think it would be easy for you - even if it is for only 2 days.

If you agree and it doesn't work out then you've got all the stress of having to give one up at some point.

I would say no.

susiey · 16/11/2009 20:45

one thing I would say about the litaf seat is go for a normal one and not the pick up we found the pick up huge and difficult to manage but our cm managed with the normal one.

leeloo1 · 17/11/2009 16:37

Thanks for the advice - Danthe4th, good to know that you're coping with 3 little ones!

After all the stressing about logistics and whether I could cope etc I havent't heard back from the parents (was only an initial enquiry) so may all be a moot point! Oh well, good to think about options for the future anyway.
