CMs - Mindee in hospital with Strep B - should I be doing anything else??

I have a new mindee who has only been here twice since the initial meeting and is now in hospital with Strep B and sounds like he's VERY poorly A lot of you will have read that a highly contagious bug has been going round (12 mindees/parents and a friend's dd have had it in the last couple of weeks). Well I informed Environmental Health, obviously cleaned everything very well (including all outsides of cupboards, door handles, door bell etc etc) and did everything according to policy.

This new mindee was in hospital (I THOUGHT with the bug, was unclear as via message on answerphone) and the last I heard was last night he was out of hospital and should be back next week. Well this morning mum phoned and he's back in, has Strep B The conversation with mum was very rushed as she was ringing whilst sorting him out then she had to go quickly. I just recall her mentioning toys and saliva. I'm not sure if she was concerned he caught it here or if she was being a nice parent and warning me for the sake of others. I've spoken to a mindee's mum who works for NHS but not in this area but she knew a bit about it and said that it's normally nothing to worry about but because this mindee has a hole in his heart, he's more vulnerable and I shouldn't panic as most people wouldn't even know they had it.

Has anyone ever had anything like this? I'm unsure what to do now? Obviously I'll clean things again but like NHS mindees mum said, you can't get rid of it from EVERYWHERE as could be in the carpet etc etc.

Any advice would be great? I'm quite down atm for other reasons and this has really upset me. I feel so sad for the little boy and his family, I just hope he'll be ok!!!

TIA x

Is it worth contacting Environmental Health or the Health Protection unit for advise?

Thanks Kate, Environmental Health have referred to another agency/department as they don't have the right level of knowledge.

I have no experience of this, but do let me know if I can help at all.

Thanks. I've been researching like mad and pretty much everything I have found relates to the stuff I already knew about newborn getting it from their mother at birth. The ONLY thing I've found outside of that is this

It sounds like there probably ISN'T anything I can/need to do but I'd love a professional to tell me to put my mind at rest!!!

Poor boy, I'm so worried for him. I do hope he's ok.

Ok so misunderstanding, it's Strep THROAT and not B which makes sense as to why I couldn't find anything on Strep B apart from newborn babies.

Still waiting to get an update though!
