Web sites by Childminders

As my business is a little slow at the moment i.e No enquiries since the beginning of the year,
I am considering setting up a website. I was wondering if any childminders have had any enquiries as a direct result of parents visiting their websites and also the costs and time involved in setting up the website. I have virtually exhausted all other avenues of advertising and this is the only way I can think of for drumming up more trade.

Thanks alibubbles & yes you're right, don't have to pay google if you come up through other sites you are listed on!

As for nickname, been hellybelly since I was a toddler (apparently!)

www.google.com/addurl/

You can enter your site for free to Google here - it takes a few weeks to get into its index but it means it checks your site out and adds it to its database.

HellyBelly · 06/06/2005 17:39

Cheers for that, can't believe google offer a advert for £5 then a small price per click if they also let you do it for free? Strange!

allieballie · 12/06/2005 18:57

HellyBelly, how much did the Front page software cost? I've looked at the PC world site and it was about £180 there which is a bit much for me.

HellyBelly · 12/06/2005 20:07

Blimey - £180 - I only charge £100 for childminder sites (and that's including the fees for the domain names etc)!! I didn't actually buy mine as my brother in law let me borrow his disc!

Sorry can't help more

HellyBelly · 13/06/2005 07:50

Maybe see if you can get it 2nd hand from somewhere?

allieballie · 13/06/2005 11:08

Could be worth doing that sometime, thanks. I have put a website together just using word and it should do the job for now but does look amateurish to say the least. my site
my dh spent ages uploading it for me and he reckons if it looked too profressionnal(?)parents would think I'd overcharged to pay for it.

kcemum · 13/06/2005 12:04

allieballie I have just browsed your website quickly and I don't think it looks amateurish at all it looks preety good.

IU am trying to put my own website togetherr at the mo but it's a slow process!

Allieballie - Just seen your website and think you've done a great job on word - it's fine!

I'm so pleased I did mine, without it I wouldn't have got the 2 new children I've got starting shortly

Good Luck with yours Kcemum!

allieballie · 13/06/2005 17:57

thanks for that encouragment, just what I needed. Hopefully I'll get some children to mind soon but it is early days, I only got registered last week.

HellyBelly · 13/06/2005 18:04

Well I did my site whilst waiting for reg certificate and as soon as I got it, I launched my site and advertised like mad. Not bad to have first enquiry (through mumsnet ) within 24 hours!!! Now got 2 new kiddies! (got cert few weeks ago)

Good luck!!

goosey · 13/06/2005 19:51

That's great HellyBelly, good luck with your new little ones!
allieballie - I use Serif webplus9 to build my site from a blank page up and the software cost me just £59. I would really recommend it as it comes with a great little manual which is easy to understand.

HellyBelly · 14/06/2005 09:05

Allieballie - just been on ebay (www.ebay.co.uk) and there's quite a few (Frontpage) for sale - VERY cheap in comparison to PC World.

Just thought you might like to have a look.
