Childminders - What is the earliest you start work?

I am currently trying to work out if I will be able to find someone to have my kids from 6am to school start for about 10 mornings a month - admittedly this is for 2 years time but I want to find out if it is possible. Basically I am hoping to start my degree then and will have to leave the house at 6am - my husband works from home about 50-60% of the time and my MIL has them one day but there will be 8-10 mornings a month max when he has to do contract work and is out of the house from 5.50am to 8pm. The other problem is that he will be giving the dates for his contract days about 2 months in advance so I'm not sure a childminder would even agree to this.

Is it possible?

Ouch. I sincerely doubt it but there's no harm in asking.

but it makes it a very long day as i always finish between 6 - 7pm.

Hmmm any other ideas of childcare for this situation?

My childminder takes one of her mindees from 6.30 but it is on a shift basis so she does not do it permanently.

I can't see that there will be that many options available for a 6 am start, it might be worth ringing a few childminders to see what they say.

My childminder is happy to take kids from 6am as her own dc's are up from 5 anyway

My best friend's childminder will do 6am starts now and then (my friend's job calls for it now and then), but usually doesn't start before 7.45am. It's a big ask. Au pair or nanny?

I used to start at 6 for one mindee. Her mum was a midwife, so did funny shifts.

I also did all part time mindees, so not one day was the same. I seemed to specialise in the funny hour parents!! It didn't bother me in the slightest.

It's always worth asking!

I start at 6 with one mindee when Mum (a nurse) is on a early sift and Dad (Army) is away, works about about twice a week in the winter months and less in the summer (the way Dads work goes)

So it wouldn't be a problem for some childminders to say can you have them this month from 6-9am on 2 days this week, no days next week, 4 days following week etc? Or would that cause them too many problems with the places they have available?

I would ask you to book and pay for regular days and you would pay for my availability, rather than when you use the space.
