Reputable Au Pair Agencies?

Hi there,

Does anyone know of any reputable au pair agencies?

I'm based in North West London and have tried a couple of agencies but to no avail.

Thanks in advance

Well, I used Abacus who are based in Brighton. Our au pair arrives in September.

Some comments re agency use generally - I'm sure you will hear some anyway so here goes. We previously recruited from au pair world. The girl came for a visit ahead of her stay but wasn't suitable in the end- this isn't a reflection on APW as such as lots of people do use Au Pair World. I did feel that the agency got me to suitable candidates more quickly than APW did and there is none of this garbage about having an email/phone interaction then suddenly they just disappear. You are insulated from this, as Debbie the owner will chase for you and get resolution one way or another.

For me the APW process was just too time consuming and not something I would consider doing again esp now that I am back at work.

Whether the AP is really better is another matter and not sure I will have much to say about that til round about October! Good luck.

I am in NW London too - used to be south coast - and we have used Au Pair by Pebbles which specialises in French APs. We have had 4 APs and no problems at all. When 1st girl left suddenly after a family crisis (good thing - she wasn't great) they found a replacement very quickly, and she was fab.

My DD is 16 now so I've almost got to the end of the line with hosting au pairs..

I've arranged it all myself a couple of times and have used agencies for 7 or 8 years.

As a virgin I went straight to DIY and found and hosted a couple of good candidates on Great Au Pair. On our third attempt though we were messed around by a girl who didn't turn up on the day she was supposed to. I used the site to try and find another person in a hurry but got fed up with people who seemed to be using it as a social networking site (mabe its improved since My Space and Facebook have taken off!!). In the end the delay in sorting my childcare out and the cost ended up being very expensive.

Since then I've used agencies.. The first was Glogovich and the woman there Laura was fantastic but I think she has sold up to another agency but if not then she is worth contacting 01883 624662

The Au Pair & Nanny Agency were pretty good and we usually try them. The last time we looked though they had stacks of short term candidates but not as many longer term girls.

For service the best agencies I have found have been London Au Pair and more recently we have been using 1st Choice Au Pairs

London Au Pair were really very good at supporting our au pair when she arrived, and kept in touch throughout her stay. They are always friendly and helpful if you want to ask for advice etc. Their registration process is not as streamlined as some but I have found that some of the slicker agencies don't seem have as much time for you so it's worth sticking to a good smaller agency once you have found one.

1st Choice Au Pairs travel to meet their candidates so when you talk to them you speak with the person who has met them in person. They have videos of each candidate so perfect to see how their English is. The girls we've had from them have been almost fluent in English. They also seem to go the extra mile in helping out with different requests.

Norma Lewis Domestic staff in Bushey is superb, highly professional and efficient.

you could try www.kidsmatter.uk.com a national nanny and au-pair agency.

I'm a fan of abacus aupair agency and I'm just round the corner from NW London.

I'm on AP no3 and Debbie from Abacus has been great. Their fee is very reasonable too.

Google and you'll get all the contact details.

Hi

If you're looking for an au pair then would you be interested in a German girl? We recruited her through Abacus but our circumstances have changed and we can't justify having an au pair any more.

She speaks perfect English and is 20 years old. She wants to spend a year in England before going to university in Autumn 2010.

hermedia · 07/09/2009 15:36

Badpups,

You could have your aupair register for free at www.GreatAupair.com. It's a self matching website where she could locate her own Host family.

Be sure to remind her to use their support department once she finds a family. They can offer her tips on screening the family and setting up an aupair agreement.

I am fairly new at the au pair "business", we just started our search. But so far, I have had good experiences with looking for au pairs online - that is, if you have the time, I think it's worth it. We signed up for two sites, aupair village and aupair world, and I have also recently discovered a German site - if you are interested in a German au pair, called "Deutsche in London" www.deutsche-in-london.net/forum/page/index.html or for Spanish au pairs: www.spaniards.es/ - however, I have not been active on these two sites, so not sure how good they are and how recommendable ...
Good luck, I can already tell, it's a full time job trying to find a good au pair!

PaMaci · 22/07/2014 15:16

good ideas :)

grandmainmypocket · 22/07/2014 20:35

Francezinha it was so so simple finding my first au pair that I got a shock 2nd time around. You're right though it is a full time job.

Francezinha · 22/07/2014 21:52

I think SLOWLY we're getting somewhere. Maybe it gets easier the more often you look for one :-)

dita79 · 05/08/2014 14:20

Why don't I put my 2 pence into this :). I used to find my own au-pairs but after a terrible experience two years back I switched back to agencies. First I used one based in Surrey (literally called surrey au pair agency)and they were ok, about three months ago I used one based in London called alderleaves, think it is run by only one person (Monica), but had a very good experience with her. Very thorough, spent a lot of time discussing my kids and what sort of person I am looking for and then went off and found me exactly the sort of au pair I wanted. Although looking for au pair online worked for some time, after ending up with a wrong sort of person to care for my kids I just prefer to get somebody referenced properly now.

good morning, I have recently become a single mum of three boys (yay!) and I have registered with an Au pair company called FINDAUPAIR.COM has anybody used this company? As I cant seem to find much on line in the way of reviews? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help! regards, Emma

Karoleann · 11/10/2016 16:18

You're better off using au pair world as you'll have more choice. If you go onto the top bit (where it says find au pair) and type a county, they really don't have that many on their website.

You'll have more chance finding someone on au pair world.

Did anyone have any experience with Sunflower Aupair agency? Many thanks.
