Hello. After poring over the useful links provided on another thread by DIOM and Mranchovy, and having an entirely useless conversation with HM Revenue and Customs where the conversation went as follows;
Me: hello, I'm ringing to clarify a few points on employing an Au Pair.
HMRC girl: a what?
Me: (in a very clear voice) an au pair.
HMRC girl: very long silence............ How do you spell that?
Me: A U P A I R.
HMRC girl: oooooohhh, I've never heard of one of those before, what it do then?
Long protracted conversation follows about what an AP is and does and how much I pay her, followed by much consulting with supervisor and me being on hold, followed by her finally coming back, then getting cut off!
Anyway, we have to get AP an NI number which is winging it's way to us as I post. My question this time is is there a 'satisfactory' way of filling in this form?
The call centre lady said that if we completed the form and they were happy they would send the NI number by return, but if there were 'ishoos' AP would have to go for an in depth interview.
Now, we are paying £470 pm to reflect her experience for around 25 hrs, which comes out at £4.70 ph which is obviously below min wage, but then there is a variation as she is live in I believe.
Are they likely to be concerned as her pay doesn't reflect NMW?
