Nanny accessing internet to view inappropriate content

Just discovered that our nanny was viewing sites related to sexually transmitted disease and to order condoms whilst supposed to be looking after my young boys. Am v disappointed, nanny is loved by the boys and generally good so I am reluctant to find another nanny but on other hand think this is a major a breach of trust (as well as breach of contract). I am even more shocked that she would consider it to be appropriate to search on sites like this in daytime when boys are at home and might view the computer. (Eldest boy told me they were playing in garden whilst she was on the internet - which makes it even worse...). Has anybody else had similar situation - what did you do?

seriously though, i honestly dont see the problem, maybe she had an itch/rash etc and wanted to check before seeing gp/ask at chemist etc

obv a nanny is meant to look after and care for her charges, but remember that many nannys dont get lunchbreaks and work 11/12hrs so surely spending time on the laptop isnt a huge sin (if charges are safe) - as sure many on here use their work computers to go on sites

Why does anyone have to order condoms off the internet? Doesn't everyone just pick them up at the supermarket or chemists?

Maybe nanny is shy, rather than sexually experienced.

Er.. Just for your info Mummy369, I keep myself up to date on sexual health issues, including STD information constantly, I do not think that I have any STDs thank you very much! However I'd rather be in the know about STDs than be ignorant! That doesn't mean that I sleep around either. Not that it would be anybody's business but my own if I did, as with the nanny's!

And in response to OP, unless you forbade internet usage whilst working then I see no reason why she shouldn't have been using those sites. I'd be mortified if my host family found out that I was using them. And also, how do you know that it wasn't your DH using the sites? It could well have been.

Oh, and sazzerbear, it could well be relevant to her job if she has older charges. My 12yo charge asks me questions about sex and STDs on occasion and after speaking to MB about it she's said to be honest with him unless it involves something thats personal or if I'm uncomfortable talking about it.

Is she a live in nanny?

Is she allowed to use the computer?

If both - shouldn't have been looking at it during work time but if she needed the info, she needed it. Not realistic to think that she should wander off to increasingly non existent internet cafe etc to check. I would probably be a bit worried she actually needed proper medical advice frankly rather than something from the internet! That's where my delimma would be - if she has a problem is she getting the best advice?!

If she's live out and doing it during work time, sorry but that is weird and seems like very strange judgement. Under those circumstances - bizarre to be ordering condoms off the web. I can't even begin to imagine our nanny doing that. Save it for later.

solid.. my sad dh actually tried to access the juicy bum site and was a little dissapointed when he didnt find it..

sazzerbear lots of people use the internet at work.. the children were in the garden and not near the computer and she wasnt accessing anything illegal or even distasteful..
I am 'at work' and my mindees are all napping.. I dont think I am being unprofessional by accessing the internet.
